help with windows partition

i recieved a error message telling me that my ntfs partition G: failed a crc check
and now windows will not recognize it and wants to format it but it contains about 30+gb of data what can i do ie...

will chkdsk G: /r/p in recovery console help
or shall i use another tool like testdisk to check the partition table

as you can see i do have some knowledge but the windows error messages allways throw me off track and i dont want to lose any data

please help if you can

Maybe you can use some File recovery software to get all the data, and then format the partition.

Do wait for suggestions from the real experts though.
 
BTW, welcome to TE!! :eek:hyeah:

Just last month my 80gb HDD started giving problems...One partition wasn't recognised. HDD died after 2 days. So you better take precautions.
