I've just reinstalled RE1 due to it crashing, it comes up with a problem, i dont have directx 3A but i have the latest directx and it just wont work, i can click continue but it still fails to work, any suggestions..??

Meh, you've got a PS3 and a PS2, both of them capable of running RE1!

Anyways, try to set it to Win95 or 98 compability and launch it again.

now when i come to open the game it says,

Its more than a decade old game..PC Gaming has a lot of compability issues. You should call up or email Capcom.
 
Not really a compatibility issue as Windows has undergone a million significant changes in addition to one complete makeover in the last decade.
It's like trying to play a NES game on the SNES and calling it a compatibility issue.

Moreover Capcom makes shitty ports.
I wouldn't expect their current games to run without problems any more than ones that were released a decade ago.

You should download the psx iso and play the game on ePSXe.
You will get ultra high resolutions + AA, advanced filtering options for the 2d backdrops and the ability to save anywhere.

Mwahahaha!!:P:D i just mounted the file and changed all the properties, now it works perfect, apart from the brightness, its really dark, does anybody know how to fix this problem, apart from doeing it on my monitor, it looks a bit shitty!:P
