[OT] Yeah I know. :D

Dad sold the bike ever since an accident took place. Mom was riding on the pillion with my 7 yr elder sister on her lap who was just 3 yrs old back then. :(

Sigh.

Thanks.

And everyone posts their pics on the orkut, facebook crap, so why fear?
Iam not a celebrity :P

Awesome looking bike ;)
Hey get a solid leg gaurd ASAP with STUDD helmet atleast. On our trip to Ladakh our bikes fell multiple times on the road, sometimes in short cuts, sometimes slipping on the snow etc but my solid leg gaurd always saved the tank and body from any dents/damages. Leg gaurd is really worthy trust me :cool2: "Sanjay" is a good brand......

Congratulations, and welcome to the TE Enfield club!

Yes Rockfella, i will soon get a good leg guard. My dealer didnt had it at that moment. By next week, i will get the registration number as well as the leg guard. I might as well get that shield over the tachometer. :D

Very good tips to maintain engine performance and increase life.

1) Dont rev the engine uselessly (Specially since your bike is new)

2) Check engine oil level every 1000 kms. (Its simple, unscrew the cap from where engine oil is filled and see oil level in a hot engine)

3) Dont exceed more than 60 kms for the first 5000 kms ... more the better...

4) After your 3rd servicing gradually start hitting 65-70-75-80-85 etc.. (U know u go 65 cruise for 5 mins or so, then go 70 crusie for 5-10 mins etc ) Thats how "running-in" is done.

5) Every 10000 Kms while getting it serviced put "Nulon brand liquid teflon" in the engine oil. It reduces friction in the engine parts and greatly increases engine life.

6) While getting serviced ask mechanic to drain out entire engine oil and fill engine with "Engine flush" liquid or petrol if you cant find engine flush. Doing this makes sure entire engine is free of carbon. Bike runs supersmooth.

7) NEVER use half cluth.

8) Ask mechanic to change the routing of the clutch wire as the default one makes it break more..... (my digicam is kaput or i would've shown u detailed pics)

My Thunderbird is Nov 2004 model, has not given me any problems except a one time tapet replacement for Rs. 1800... thats all in 4 years. Runs smooth and i will keep it forever if possible. In manali (a place known for excellent bullet mechanics) i asked the guy how old does the bike seems and he said 2 years when it is 4 years old hehehe.....

PS: If you are thinking of changing the silencer for more thump do it after 10000 kms as in the initial running in the standard silencer gives a back-pressure to the engine.... considered important for engine in the running-in stage.

ALSO: Change gears after hitting 2700 or more RPM on the tachometer, Its an AVL engine, gives good performance at slightly higher RPM FTW!

Golden rule: Dont ask your dealer for everything everytime. Explore the local market :P

Thanks for ur much needed advice. I will by-heart all the points as well as the golden rule :P

I guess i have already broke couple of rules like

3)Dont exceed more than 60 kms for the first 5000 kms ... more the better...

4) After your 3rd servicing gradually start hitting 65-70-75-80-85 etc.. (U know u go 65 cruise for 5 mins or so, then go 70 crusie for 5-10 mins etc ) Thats how "running-in" is done.

I already drove it till 70 . :ashamed:

BTW, 5000 mark seems too much..my last bike pulsar was with me for 4 years and it covered a mere 22,000 kms.

Wanted to give reps. wasnt allowed.
