Hi ,

Ok so I finally got the equipment and stuff from bsnl yesterday, 2 months after I applied for the connection(a big phew on that), neway, so a guy came over yesterday and gave me a modem, a smartax mt882, and then as usual guy din't know jack sh*t so I had to configure everything myself. Now I was told that my username and password would come along with a cd through courier in a couple of days.

Now my question is, do they provide a standard password initially? My friend said that they had given him xyz123, is that in all of your cases as well? And did all of you get the id u had applied for? I wan't to know this coz I don't feel like waiting for the cd to arrive and I wan't to start using the net asap, i.e. as soon the adsl link lights up on my modem, it's off now, coz I think the bsnl ppl haven't started the adsl signal on my line yet. So as soon as they start adsl on my connection I can access the net.

AFAIK, your account will be created on 1st of next month since today is 16th. I may be wrong but that system is followed in general. As for your username...they don give a damn for the id u applied for. u will get what u want only if ur very very lucky. theres a common formula used in most cases:

ur username is the first 4 letters of ur name + last 4 numbers of your phone.

e.g, if your name (the name registered with them) is Rohit Sharma and the phone number is say, 29992123, then the username will be rohi2123. In some cases, it cud be shar2123 (using first 4 letters from the surname Sharma).

The initial pass, as your friend said is xyz123. You can call your exchange and confirm that.

First of all they changed my username after 12 months. Till then i was using some ERWW2132 userid given by them. Then i was told that i was not using internet properly and they gave me my desired id which i had applied 12 months before.

U may or may not get the adsl link before 1st of next month, but nothing can be said of bsnl. I was given connection for part of month when i started.

For password i think thats their default password given to all. Also u can try calling their helpline. They handed me passw and userid over phone without any verification like it was a candy.

Well I got the user-id I had asked for and the password was some crap they gave me.. Not xyz123. But then this was a long time ago.. When their broadband service just started off.

I applied for connection. Went to BSNL and picked up the router. Came home, attached the router, called them up and they gave me the username and pass.

^^Wow I wish it was that simple...

@Quickfire... I checked with a couple of other ppl... and they din't follow the system u are talking about. Umm is that like your theory or have u seen that system implemented?

And yeah getting the adsl link from the 1st of next months seems like a logical explanation.

So like I'll call up cc and ask for my userid and password if the courier dosen't come b4 i get the link on my line.

But watever u say about bsnl im pretty sure that it's gonna be much better than the pull-your-hair-out experience i had with sify.

I applied on the 25th, had my own router the next day (D-Link 502T), now it's 502-GLB on the mkt. (they made some modifications & busybox has been updated) & got username & password in 2 days, in fact I got a telephone call to my no. as they didn't need any kind of authentication. Also I have been lucky with the guy-in-charge at BSNL broadband as he's been pretty co-operative & helpful. By himself he had called twice to enquire if things are going smoothly. Been a yr. since using it, the only grouse (wishing for 512-1 Mbps on unlimited 900) otherwise service is excellent. I would recommend the D-Link 502T as it has been behaving quite well also if one looks at the abuse I've been putting it up with (24 hrs. non-stop) & no issues to date :)

And yeah dont forget to set ur ADSL modulation to G.DMT mode. This activates the adsl link (ofcourse when u get ur userid etc) almost instantly as against 5-30 minutes wait in other modes.

Its not mine, I've learnt that theory from 1800-424-1600 :bleh:

Ofcourse I've seen that system implemented at many places else I wouldn't be talkin abt it. Give it a try and let us know how it goes or just wait for the courier with your username and password to arrive. That'll be the safest bet.

^^Lol.. hmm.. ok fine... neway can't do nethin rite now neway... coz theres no adsl signal on my line in the first place... so will wait till i get a green on that.

The system QF is talking about may be at his place. Coz in Pune the password normally is ___123pun. Also the username is based on what you supply to them. They call you directly for username and pass. And you can also call your local exchange and get the username and pass.

In Pune its pretty simple.

Well... I finally got my username and password. This was after around 20 calls made to bsnl. I think we were all wrong this time, I got the username i asked for and the default password they gave was a lil too funky for any one to guess. Now I just hope the service is worth the wait.

I said I got my username and password, isn't it obvious that they would have activated the adsl signal as well? And I've had the adsl signal for over a month now... it's just yesterday i got my userid and password

ur lucky u got it so fast...

heres my story with bsnl KOLKATA...

applied fr connection in december last week....

got the modem by jan 2nd week,

got the username and password a week later via post..

then the guy came over to activate and guess wht no link in the modem

so i call up bsnl.. no responce...

jan gone

feb gone

march came and after repeatedly speaking to god knws how many bsnl employes finallly got the link a week or so back..

bt till then my passwrd username became invalid something about a spoilt port and stuff...

so finally after calling everyone at bsnl again... i finally got my password on thursday...

and finally it has strted working... the speeds i must say are mind blowing..

yesterday was downloading stuff using download accelerator the bloody thing went upto 200+kbbs ... and im suppose to be on 256 unlimited plan :P

so definetly worth the wait....

Dood I wudn't exactly call it soon, i applied for the connection on the 4th of jan then around the 6th of feb or summin a guy came over with the modem, got the link around 2 weeks later and now day b4 yesterday i got my username password. And yeah the speeds are crazy, i get 1.7 on my upto 2mbps plans, and dude you should get atleast 230kbps on ur 256 kbps plans, so i don't understand wat u meant by "supposed to have 256 kbps unlimited plan" or are u talking about 200 kBps?
