Guide Hide your files in jpeg image!

I searched the forum and got no similar result. So, I am sharing this trick that I found over facebook by some of my friend. It can be old trick to some members and new for some.

Yes, as the title of this thread suggests you can hide your secret files inside JPEG images using WinRAR and command line magic!

In this tutorial I'll show you how to hide "secret.txt" in an image called "xtechmaniac.jpg".

Pre-requirements : Only WinRar! :P

1. Place secret.txt and xtechmaniac.jpg in a folder. (say D:\Hiding)
2. Convert secret.txt to secret.rar by using WinRar (Right click on secret.txt > Add to "secret.rar")
3. Open Command Prompt.
4. Go to that specific folder using cd commands. (D:\Hiding in this case)
5. Now type copy /b xtechmaniac.jpg + secret.rar result.jpg
6. You can substitute the name according to your own requirements. This will make a file named result.jpg which will contains both xtechmaniac.jpg and secret.txt
7. Done! Open that folder and you can see a result.jpg file. If you open result.jpg normally you'll see a image but if you open it with Winrar you'll see your hidden file i.e. secret.txt. ;)

I'm attaching a file as an example.

Comments and Reps are always welcomed.. :)

hey dude, but if we do it for bigger files, will it not increase the size of image file ??

and would you please tell how to use cd commands for this, i have forgotten, did in school in DOS !! :P

thanks for the trick friend

Say the folder Hiding is in D:\

Goto Run (Windows Key + R)

Type CMD

You'd probably be in C:\Users\xyz>

Type cd\

D:

cd hiding

Glad you all liked it. :) And yes, for changing directory in command prompt, follow the steps given by sibot.

^^ what are these ? ,could you explain a bit ?

Actually, there is a trick by which you can make folder to appear as Control Panel. When other will open the file, they will end up seeing Control Panel but when you'll open the file you can see your folders i.e the folder along with its all data cannot be accessed via Windows by anyone except you. :)

Not only Control Panel but you can also make your folder to appear as My Computer, Recycle Bin or even Internet Explorer AFAIK. ;)

Actually, the thing that you are doing by typing "copy /b xtechmaniac.jpg + secret.rar result.jpg" is that you are merging an image file and a RAR archive. You merge an image file named xtechmaniac.jpg and a RAR archive named secret.rar and save it as file named result.jpg. So when you open the file normally you end up seeing the image part but if you open it in WinRar(Right Click > Open With > WinRar) you end up seeing the winrar archive that you had merged.

Works flawlessly and to be honest I find it as a better option than those Control Panel tricks, as no one will doubt you. They will think that its just a normal wallpaper! :P

Will write it when I have some free time. I have the tricks saved in notepad somewhere in my hard-disk. I'm busy now actually. Doing some bandwidth intensive work.

But as I said, I think this method is superior to those control panel tricks. Just personal opinion. :)

Oh BTW thank you all for the reps. :)

One important thing to note here is that the order of appending matters. If you do

Code:
copy /b secret.rar + xtechmaniac.jpg result.jpg

the image would show as corrupt since the first headers it reads would be that of the rar file :)

Its true that this trick is a old one.
These is an updated version of this. The process is called Steganography, by this you can hide your data within another data, say image within image/audio file/video file/ text file etc. and vice versa.
For this there are lots of apps online. You can try invisible secrets. Its a good one.

Why not just change the file extension of whatever file you are hiding to a different one? It'll render the file unreadable until you change it back to the original one.

There lays the trick!

Actually, when we open that file(changed extension name) it cant render anything, so whoever that have some little knowledge about computer can open the file in the correct format using trail and error. But in this case(hided in .jpeg image) if anyone open the image he'll see a normal image, which makes him impossible to think that inside the image file there is *ahem* things.. ;) Just place that image file in a collection of wallpaper and you are done.. :P

^but by this method u cant hide an archrive, coz last time i tried my archrive got corrupted.

This method is specially to hide WinRar archives! I've been using this for past 6 months and it works flawlessly without any issue.. Just follow my instructions properly.. It Works! :P

Edit : Cant you see the file that I attached..?? It clearly slows that it works.. ;)

Cool, but in my case i bumped into some errors!!!!

Well my solution is not bat either, by steganography one can not only hide data but one can even password protect it and the encryption is not easily crackable one

You can even password protect in this case. Just put password in the RAR archive, for example in my tutorial you have to put password in secret.rar file. So when you open the resultant file normally you will see image but if you open it in WinRAR you will be asked for password. Just an extra layer of protection. :) Works flawlessly..

Anyways, I'll read about steganography when I've some free time.. Hope you liked the tutorial.
