It's a Sony:
Stereophile: Sony ES SS-M9ED loudspeaker
But that $16000, so you need something a little cheaper and with a few more functions.
So here's the way I would go.
1. Cheap Kara-OK capable DVD player, about 3-3.5K, you should be able to pick them up by the kilogram. This may have a decent enough analog output. As long as you steer clear of major brands, that is. Some of the cheaper players actually make some funny component choices, I've seen a Dapic player with a Wolfson DAC.
2. Cassette deck: The last time I bought a tape deck, it cost me about 3K, may have become cheaper now.
Now that leaves you with about 15K. I'm sure we'll get more recommendations for wharfedale and other similar possibilities, 15K is a small but workable budget to start with.
I have no idea where you are, but you might want to listen to the entry-level bookshelves of as many brands as possible. Tannoy starts at about that price, and so does Dali, Mission, PSB, etc. The problem is you'll still have to fork out for an amplifier, as all of those are about 15K a pair.
But 300 watt RMS? If anything in your budget range specifies 300 watts RMS, I would look at it very suspicously.
The biggest problem with the Sony mass-market stuff is that the speakers are, quite simply, krap. Sony puts in the cheapest woofer that can take the power without burning its coils, and shoves in a cheap paper tweeter with just one capacitor so that that doesn't burn up. There has to be a way for them to make money, even if it's by cutting the cost of the plastic they put in.
The other option is used stuff - if you ask around at audio dealers while auditioning, you can come across some surprising bargains, as a lot of audiophiles keep upgrading their 'rigs' just like we do. And it's not a sin, most of the gear is very well maintained.
