Edit: I personally prefer FLAC. It is similar to MP3, but audio is compressed in FLAC without any loss in quality.

Re: High quality song!

XTM thanks dude for your direct help.

Very basic question may be:- any high quality format songs really makes superior audio notes compare to standard format-mp3?.........honestly once I hear both format songs but could not observed some notable hearing difference....any strong inputs here pls....

Well, the size of a FLAC file doesn't really indicate a lot of compression as compared to an mp3 :) FLAC is much closer to the source than an mp3 is.

You also need good to great speakers to find out the difference. On average speakers, you wouldn't notice :)

Re: High quality song!

Please think real hard on this: How can you go from Standard MP3 (Lossy Compression) to FLAC(Lossless compression). You cant go from lower quality to higher quality using any god damn software. otherwise why would FLAC be such a coveted music format if you could just convert 128kbps Mp3 to FLAC.

Re: High quality song!

Well if you have Nero 7 or higher, then you you will find a nero encoder, which is a good one. You can encode your current mp3 to 320 kbps mp3 and it will be supported by most of the players

+1 even im with that ... how can a inferior quality be converted to something better ? ... only the format or extension of the file will change from .mp3 to .flac no more changes in the quality .. rather download flac songs :|

err.. ever tried zooming in on a thumbnail? Its still a thumbnail so detail is already lost. Better get the CDs and rip them to EAC/FLAC directly or else look for a friend who has a decent collection, download you know the drill.

Re: High quality song!

You can't convert garbage to gold . Similarly low quality MP3 to high quality FLAC is not possible. :P

Re: High quality song!

Hey all mates on board....still am crossed my fingers!!...:S

To summerise all your high notes mentioned here....
1) Is there really sound quality (hence sound HEARING experience) difference between Standard MP3 (Lossy Compression) to FLAC(Lossless compression)?

2) If yes, is it possible to convert Standard MP3 (Lossy Compression) to FLAC(Lossless compression) in REAL?

Experts all here, pl participate.

Why do you need experts to answer the question?...

1. The sound quality you hear depends on the speakers/earphones..

if the capability of the mp3 is less than the capability of the speakers, you will find difference in switching to flac/wav. Else no Change.

(Note: the earphones/speakers which gives the difference from 320kbpsmp3 to flac/wav is too high to afford normally)

2. yes you can convert mp3 o flac, but it will be the same details as you find on the mp3 - no improvement in quality.

Always, convert from high quality to a lower quality, if your effort needs to be used..

Lossy MP3 - Now why it would be lossy ? Cause while converting it from original source (Some) quality has already been reduced (or lost) so its a lossy compression.
Lossless Flac - Quality from the original source is preserved in the Flac Output file so its a Lossless compression.
Now how one can convert a Audio File of which some quality has already been lost to a lossless audio file ? It simply cant.
However the format can be converted if you want to see that Audio file in .flac format but it would be same as the original source i.e., lossy.
Hope this helps.

Re: High quality song!

Like apex said, you cannot expect audio improvement by using any software. If you want good playback quality, never rip audio Cds into mp3-128kbps. Instead use FLAC mode for converting the files. Or At least use 320kbps mp3. (Higher bitrate conversion usually implies better quality. Eg: FLAC is 990-1100kbps. But once the data has been shed by converting to lower bitrate nothing can be done to get it back)

On a similar note, i was thinking which is the best player for playback of mp3 files? My current opinion about different players is as follows:
Winamp: Good beat separation, but its fast paced and not smooth continous sounding.
Windows media player: Smooth but feels a bit muffled

Foobar: Was using this until recently when i bought better headphones, I found foobar is a bit bass shy and mixes the midrange-high a little bit. Smooth but bad for fast music. Also, the beat seperation was pretty bad when compared to iTunes. (Using latest fooBar with DarkOne v2.1 interface)DarkOne v2.1 by ~tedgo on deviantART
iTunes: Very nice/fun sounding and feels clear somehow. Beats are distinct and correctly rolled-off as it is supposed to be. But there's lots of distortions as if the silent parts of the song are being unnaturally amplified.
 Totally confused between latter two. Which is the ACCURATE one Or any other players / FooDSP, etc.?

1) Yes there is a difference but if you or may not hear the difference if you play them on not so good speakers/ headphones / earphones. Infact you may not be able to makeout the difference if player cd player/audio player/PC is not giving a good output

So yes the difference is there but you might not hear it if the source and o/p medium is not upto the mark

2) No you cant convert lossy to lossless
But you can convert mp3 to flac

All depends on the source Audio CD Lossless ------> Converted to Flac ( Lossless)
Audio CD Lossless -------> Converted to mp3 (Lossy )

Now if you convert Mp3 lossy ------> Flac all you are doing is converting the mp3 to flac format.... the quality was already lost when you converted to mp3 .... it was probably thrown out the window, picked up by a stranger and mailed to bermuda triangle and you cant get it back

Re: High quality song!

Well As Per the Blindfold tests tell us

1.Sound Quality wise

FLAC>ALAC>OGG>AAC>mp3

2.As Others already said u Cant Enhance a Mp3 Sound quality By Converting it To FLAC,on the other hand u May even decrease it Which is Known as generational Loss

MP3 became popular because it was widely accepted, available and provided a Suitable balance between Size and quality

Sadly of late the Latest LAME 3.98a Is not that great

2.If u want absolute sound quality u should always get FLACs.But then again Unless u r Someone like fah33m or any other extreme audiophile we have here and possess Some Pricey-a$$ Audio gear,u wont be able to notice the difference :)

try that yourself,go for a Blindfold test...Get a song In all formats and Play them in random Order and listen to them blindfolded

3.generally For Good Music 192KBPS CBR/v2 VBR Mp3s are kinda Okay.Look For scene Released music always To ensure accurate ripping

4.next U Need a good Speaker. An MX5021 or something Like that Should Suffice

5.Lastly u Need a good Mp3 Player Software.there has been a Lot Of Confusion regarding Which one to Choose Lately,Before winamp became a bloatware it Used to Be great.I personally use Winamp 2.666+Enhancer 0.17 DSP plugin Which Is Pretty nice

Some Even say that this combo Gives u Sound quality Of an Audigy Sound Card.Exaggeration is That maybe, but I find t better that most Of the lot

Another underrated gem was WMP9,u can try that too

Happy Listening :)
