High speed internet is not helping torrent speed.

I have recently changed my broadband plan to 8 mbps expecting it will speed up torrents. But even i do have the said speed, torrents are still struggling at around 2-3 mbps. Is this because i have only few of them currently downloading?
Or my isp (airtel) is capping torrentspeed?

Now i am thinkingk go to 4 mbps plan.

So if you download a normal file , you get 8mbps , but you start downloading torrents , its goes to 2-3 mbps ? . How does airtel know , what data is being downloaded ? .If indeed they are finding out torrents and capping the speeds , then my plans to shift to Airtel needs to be thinked again .

They can tell by the protocol being used. So they CAP it.
