Wanted to buy one of these new compact digicams with HD 720p video recording and pretty much settled for the upcoming Sony DSC WX1: Sony releases DSC-WX1 & TX1 with Exmor R sensor: Digital Photography Review

While browsing for other models I noticed Casio has some "High Speed" video models as you can see here and I'm looking at the Exilim EX-FC100: EXILIM | CASIO DIGITAL CAMERAS | CASIO

This high speed video stuff seems like a nifty feature, even though it's gimmicky with the resolution becoming very small at those framerates but the demo videos look very cool, check them out:

Couple of questions:

Does anyone have first hand experience with any such high speed compact digicams with respect to quality/usefulness of the videos?

Any other models to recommend besides the Sony and the Casio, especially for high speed video?

(For just HD 720p video I already have a list of cameras to look at and already shortlisted the Sony.)

kodak zi8 seems to have "fixed focus" lens (no autofocus?) and also no optical zoom only digital, so i dont know what people are raving about :D it may be good for anyone wanting a pocket video cam for 1080p full HD videos.

btw the main point of this thread is for "high speed video" (high fps) recording and that too in regular "compact digi cams" so you capture fast movements in slow motion... did you see the sample videos in the links in previous posts?

primary function = still photos

secondary function = HD videos

tertiary function = high speed slomo recording :)

well stay away from the casio, while they have all those 1000fps etc, their still image quality are the worst.

awwww... so are there no other digicams which have this nifty feature of high speed video recording?

sanyo xacti hd1010 ... it goes till 300 fps , still image is not that great , sorry couldnot be of much help

no worries, i know its a timepass thread to try to identify some models.... btw the sanyo is also mainly a "camcorder" (video) not a regular "digicam" (still photots)... :)

I am not aware of the high speed recording feature, but Panasonic are the daddy's of compact super zooms.

The ZS3 is one of most critically acclaimed camera's in the compact superzoom category and also features HD video recording at 30 fps.
