Well my 260gb Hitachi hdd has gone bust....only 1 partition is screwed but is screwed big time.
Each time chkdsk tries to scan the partition before windows starts I get a couple of sectors not readable error and then the pc reboots. If i cancel the disk check i can get into windows but if i run chkdsk in windows the pc reboots too :@

The hdd has 3 partitions the other 2 partitions r working fine but how can i recover data from the damaged partition???

lol same case here. mine 2 out of 4 partitions gone :P says local disk in my computer, if I open the partition, HDD makes nasty GRRR noises and i get this dirve is not formatted message.

even i wanna know how to get back data...:(

same with my 500GB hitachi HDD it started with one partition then spoiled the whole thing now out of 4 partitions i can only view 2 corrupted onesi recovered those via HDD regenerators the sad part is it took me 3 days... 100GB per day

^^ i get that 'local disk" thing but if i try to access the partion the pc freezes for a while and then nothing happens!

First back up the other partitions too..

Use partion magic boot tool to see if the partition can be recovered, You wil find it in hirens boot cd, You'l find some other tools too..try them..

Thirdly, deep format the whole hdd and repartition..or give for rma..

i checked the partition info via windows and it shows size as 100gb n free space as 100gb dosent say anything abt the file system.

I dont remember if this partition has data...so i am wondering is the partition really empty or its showing all the free space because its screwed??

Use Partition Table Doctor 3.5 for recovering lost partitions, it works in 80% cases:D Tried many times by me.
just rebuild partition table there and all done. Some screen shots for help..Remember to create first partition of exact size before crashing.

Avoid disturbing hard disk too much like repairing etc it will lead to damage data.
