that bill-will-is-needed-for-rma is bullcrap.
My hitachi lappy HDD died. returned it to the same dealer where i bought,t ht guy dudnt even bother sending it to RMA, 3 weeks later i got back the same drive, still busted. I blasted out at them, they said the drive was rejected due to *burns*. when i asked them show me where its burnt, they said *inside burnt* SHEESH.
Called up a comp shop owner i know well, he said bring it to mysore, i'll get it RMAed.
Went there, he just logged into Hitach dealers's site. entered serial number, said warranty is valid. He generated a ticket number. Said that a courier guy came and picked up the HDD from him the next day and it went for RMA. Two weeks later i got a brand new drive selaed in the grey cover.
Those fluckin shop owners are pathetic. :@ :@

Thats the reason i buy segate or WD :D
end of the day stay away from Hitachi drives lol

Well thats not the case...but in both seagate and wd once u buy frm the shop owner u dont have to deal with him for rma...thats not the case with hitachi....so its bound to happen shop owners will ask for bill....but their are some shit ppls like comp selection...who are not ready to check their own records....or are just their to make profit and stick some other product than what is asked...i would say mumbai guys if u not a gujju than stay away frm this crap ppls...or get their price and go to prime and state 25 buks more less and get frm them.....

Sorry for bumping old thread.

I have a hitachi Neso 320GB external HDD bought from China in 2009 and it seems to be dying. I have no clue about it warranty remaining and whether it is applicable in India or not. On hitachi website when punching the serial number and selecting the country as either India or China gets me same result as follows

The drive is not valid for warranty through Hitachi. Please return product to your point of purchase

Not sure what it means and in my case returning to point of purchase is impossible. I have shot a mail to their customer care.
Anything else i can do ??

because its bought from china.

that may be reason and it may not be original china import.

it may be customs clearance stock.

One more problem. I have a toshiba laptop, 2.5 years old. It has a hitachi 160 GB hdd. I used hd tune pro and it showed me quiet a lot of bad sectors. Also there was some other hdd health check tool that said that my hdd health was critical. I checked using the above mentioned tools after I ran the belarc profiler and in its report it showed FAILURE against hdd SMART. Does this mean that my hdd may be dying?

How to get its RMA done?

Laptop was bought from Canada

One more thing....the serial number shown physically on the HDD is different from what some online tools like the HDD Health v3.3 Build 220 Beta / Belarc advisor are showing :S

Contacted Hitachi India and they told that since it is an internal HDD which came with my laptop, they cannot directly do anything. Need to contact Toshiba for the same :(

Ok so this is what i get reply for my neso hdd...

Dear Sir/Madam,

Thank you for contacting Hitachi Asia Pacific Technical Support Centre.

I am afraid the drive WHC2TJ2C is an OEM category drive, this drive has NO enduser warranty from Hitachi. The drive is not valid for warranty through Hitachi. OEM drives are drives that we sold to system manufacturer or USB box manufacturer to be installed and sold as complete system unit. As such, the warranty of OEM drive is undertaken by the system manufacturer.

Neso external hard drive uses Hitachi hard drive internally, but Neso external hard drive is not a Hitachi branded external drive. I suggest you contact your place of purchase to check out what is the warranty status and warranty process for this drive.
