i am looking for a 1TB internal HDD
the choices are obviously,
Western Digital GREEN(3 platters)32MB Buffer "WD10EADS"
vs
Seagate 7200.12(2platters) 32MB Buffer "ST31000528AS"
after some reading,
i found out that Seagate is cheaper, has better speed, less noise and lesser power consumption than the WDC...
But,
I have been using WDC Green(WDC 640GB---this will remain as my OS/primary drive) and appreciate their Door-to-door warranty...

Further,
i have few queries:
1.)-----Does Seagate provide Door-to-Door replacement ??
2.)------Do any of WDC or Seagate provide Data recovery,,if yes on which models???

So,
Please help me make a buying decision as I will be using the 1Tb for mainly storing movies n stuff...
-----------ALONG WITH A LINK TO THE BEST PRICE OF THE HDD .which you are suggesting---------------

1) Nope. As far as I know Seagate doesn't give Door-to-Door replacement facility :(

2) I guess Seagate gives data recovery service ... but not so sure

Are you sure, because as I know,Seagate gives data recovery service only for 7200.11 drives. And they suck even at that data recovery service.

I saw your footer,Am just curious. Are you Using two WD 640GB in Raid 0

data recovery is only for 500GB ST3500320AS from 7200.11 drive as far as i know.

seagate does not provide door to door service...

on the contrary i have never had any seagate failing on me... maybe just luck.. i have ST3500320AS which has failed on many people but mine is just running fine. But that shouldn't be an excuse for no door to door warranty.

WD is over priced at the moment. bought the same 1TB you mentioned for a friend this week.

the speed is impressive...

here is HDTune benchmark i did for the same.

^ " that applies only to towns / remote places which do not have a service center in their city ." as told by the seagate representative when i had called up their service centre .

In fact I never bought seagate 7200.11 drives ... that's why I said that I m not sure :)

Actually I m using two WD 640GB in RAID mode but with Intel RAID Matix ... so out of 1280GB, 100GB is in RAID-0 mode for games, softwares etc and rest of space in RAID-1 mode for data :ohyeah:

wohhhh....This is faster than my WDC 640GB Green in terms of average transfer(equal to the WDC 640GB Blue) though it has more access time(maybe because of 3 platters)
Could some one post similar specs of the Seagate 7200.12
But considering the feedback.. my inclination is turning from Seagate 7200.12 to WDC Green ...

Check this NETGEAR ReadyNAS • View topic - WD10EADS WD Caviar Green not recommended for NAS by WD
Read that there are two WDC 1TB Green 32MB buffer being manufactured:
one being the
WDC WD10EADS-00L5B1 {This is a 3-platter drive}
AND
WDC WD10EADS-00M2B0. this is the newer 2-platter drive
In a nutshell,the 2 platter drive has a lesser life ...
this may be because of the newer firmware on the newer 2-platter drives.

Which model is widely available, has any one got the 2-platter model...
