Home office setup for a WFH job

I am looking to setup my room in a good manner so it has good lighting (natural) and overall a good setup. The room is quite small with dimensions as L - 9 feet, B - 6.75 feet, H - 10 feet. It is the last room of the house which connects to the backyard and has 2 door for entry and exit. There is a window in the back wall and a cupboard in the room.

I wonder what would be the best way to organize the room? Currently I face opposite to the window and in the direction on main entry to house so that when I'm alone I can take care of someone coming to the house but while in meeting this is a drawback as my face is dark because of the shadow and not clear.

I'm also looking to upgrade to a standing desk currently I use a 4(feet) x 2(feet) desk, which holds my laptop and 27" monitor and some books on the foot space I have a gaming PC as well. I was looking if I can get a bigger desk 5feet x 2.5feet then the desk can be well organized and the PC won't hinder with my foot space.

Can someone help me with it? I would love to share some pics as well if you can genuinely help with the setup. Thanks

I was also in the same situation. 4x 2.5 desk, then I got a drawer built with same material as my desk, it now basically extends my desk by another 1.5 feet and drawers provide space to keep stuff.

This setup was enough to keep my full size tower, a laptop with stand and a 27 inch monitor. Currently I've sold my PC and replaced it with my personal laptop on the desk. Still a lots of space left.

Here are the pictures:

Edit: If you're only looking to upgrade to a sit stand desk then drawer is not an option.

I think the best improvement you can do is to put your desk against the open window. Not only will it help your video during video calls, it will eliminate the reflections on your monitor.

If you use headphones, one of the most underrated accessories is a headphone stand / holder that you can tuck out of the way on the side of the table.

Yeah was considering that as well but main concern is the desk and after that I will setup the whole room so that it is well done

The headphones suggestion is also good, I will keep that in mind

Hi. I used this to plan my office space, it was really useful to mock up options. Just make sure you take accurate measurements of everything in the room from the furniture to the window and plug point locations. Happy to help further after you've got the initial layout ready!
I created this mockup for my room. Can you help me further?

Do you have the option of throwing away the cupboard and replacing it with storage under the desk? Then you can get a nice wide desk.

Otherwise, put the cupboard to the top right of your diagram, and carve out some space for the desk

No, this is not possible

I liked this idea but instead of moving it like you added in the diagram I will keep it parallel to the top wall and that way I can put a corner shelves right to the desk. Which will even give me space on the back wall to do add something like painting or portrait or basically some quotes.

What do the two doors connect to? How tall is the shelf?
My first thought would be to use the shelf as a divider in the room. Place it where the green line in my diagramme is and the desk where the purple line is. Keeps your workspace protected from the passageway between the doors (depending on how busy they are this could be v important) and gives you the chance to get light from the window while having fewer distractions. Also keeps you under the fan. All this depends of course on whether the cupboard and desk will fit in that orientation or not (I think they will but I'm not sure if everything is to scale?), as well as what the power outlet situation is (useful to mark that on your plans). If you're planning to replace desks I would recommend an L shaped one within my suggested arrangement. Allows you two clear work spaces with the PC on one and writing etc on the other, with full accessibility with an office chair.

Thanks, the two doors connect to main hall of the house and backyard.

For the shelf do you mean the window? If yes then adding a divider there might not be possible as this room is quite small.

How will the L shaped desk work out? I do not usually do any writing and use it for programming and gaming. Moving desk to the corner and putting the cupboard behind is possible, I have kept things as per the scale. For power outlets They are present on every wall expect the one with window and I use a extension right now so won't be an issue.

ohh, my bad
No no, it was my mistake since you did mention it earlier.

Even if it is a cupboard, I would recommend trying out the orientation I suggested. The enclosed cubicle effect that can provide on the side of your desk that is open to the doorway and passage might be something you find helpful (I know it does for me).

Another thing to consider is if you care about what your Zoom background is for professional purposes. I don't much care but I know it matters for appearance for some people.

Regarding the L shape desk, if you're certain you wouldn't benefit from a second desk you shouldn't get anything larger than whatever you need for your PC. Especially if you'd like it to be a standing/adjustable desk, since finding that in an L-shape is probably quite complicated.

If you want advice on chairs and desks, I can help there as well. I just did a round of purchases for my parents, so I can pass on any recommendations that would fit your needs and budget.

The cupboard can take a lot of space and would eventually become a barrier as it will block half of the window and accessing it will be another issue.

I want to keep my zoom background as clean as possible so that no one gets disturbed by something in the back.

I was also considering a normal desk of 2.5x5 feet which should accomodate my PC?.

Would love to have some suggestions for the table

I have a friend who's had a good experience with this company, so I chose them for my parents as well. Don't be beholden to that suggestion, though, there are many companies making this sort of gear now.
