home setup upgrade

hey guys so my trusty old airtel beetel 450bx1 is ready to give up, keep getting freq disconnections and the airtel guys came n checked everything, said to replace the modem, i have two n13u connected wirelessly, and they run fine, but i keep getting freq disconnections on my new vostro,, the onboard intel wifi sux, so im upgrading to a AC intel 7260 i think. (already ordered) .... i need recomendations for a ADSL2+ modem. Wireless-AC routers.. stronger signal then my current setup hopefully

will be shifting to ac band now, sisters laptop will also be upgraded from a N wifi adapter to AC band..
we use two machines with constant downloads and media streams.. an xbox (will be getting the one when launches) have one more macbook pro coming in december lol.. plus 3 phones always on wifi.. tango/skype etc

airtel 450bx (8mb plan) ---> router (was running as a access point earlier) asus n13u b1 -----> repeater (across the hall) asus n13u b1.

what modem should i order .... cuz right now i keep getting super slow wifi speeds / freq disconnections and reboots from the modem, ... i plan to add a synology nas next yr round june, should i get something with gigabit ports? or for the modem it doesnt matter/ just get a better wifi router? sorry for the n00b questions

Gigabit - YES. If you dont want to upgrade - like me, add a GbE switch for the time being. The disconnects could be because of the repeater. Would suggest to run a wire and use as AP instead of repeater.

A floor layout would be great. Without that, it would be kinda difficult to suggest.

And, I dont suggest jumping to an ac device right away, I would still stick to n only for the time being till ac reaches more widespread appeal. AFAIK, Netgear and ASUS are the only two products with good AC routers out.

Had a chat on the phone with @toxicdrift - the issue might be related to his laptop only. Told him to check if the range issue persists with other WiFi routers. There is no disconnect with his other laptop.

As for the modem - have suggested a wired modem/or use the exisiting device 24x7 and put it in bridge mode. Let one of the ASUS N13's handle the routing, and add a GbE switch when he gets the NAS. When he decides to upgrade to a dual band router, it can replace the N13 and the gigabit switch.

thanks for all the help vivek, def need a modem upgrade though, every morning it takes forever to turn on/ connect to the internet. and goes on a 15 min boot loop, lol rest of the day its fine somehow

Keep it on 24x7. In the meantime, get a new modem with bridge mode support. Anyone who uses a Airtel modem in bridge mode?

BTW, did you get any replies from Dell?

@toxicdrift Once, if you are comfortable with this, try finding the updated drivers for your WiFi card and update it. Sometimes Dell does not update the drivers and bugs creep in.

ive already updated the drivers from the intel website, trying changin the settings as recomended on their website on my n13u and the wifi chip aswell, ..
i also did a blunder while ordering the wifi chip, ordered the cheapest 7260, turns out the wireless N model, not the a/c. (double facepalm) apprently there r quite a few 7260 models, i just saw this @ newegg and pasted it in ebay . (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16833106190) i guess i should have ordered in the morning readin up proper, ne way will sell the card and order a a/c one.. also routers ive been lookin @ the dlink 868 model / its got good ratings @ small network builder

laptop after the new settings is better bro, so i dont think its a card issue, .. the wifi has been super sloww though when im away.. im just waitting for everything to show up, the card/modem plus these adapters now and see if i can get it to work. :([DOUBLEPOST=1383903093][/DOUBLEPOST]router is here and configured with the n13u, runs much cooler then my trusty old beetel 450bx1
