Audio Home Theatre under 15k

Hi TE Bretheren,

Planning a home theatre this diwali.

Have quite a big living room ,about 500 Sq ft

Purpose: Movies and Music

Budget: 15k

Confused if I should get a separate set of speakers (Altis /Logitech/ Altec Lansing) and DVD player separately or Combo Home Theatres like that of Sony and Phillips.

The more detailed your response the better decision I will be able to make. So no character limit on your responses.:cool2:

Cheers

well, i also was also in the same dilemma and finally went for logitech z5500 .

after auditioning some HTIB arnd same price tag, the logitech system is the same as all HTIB's, sats and a sub. But the logitech sats and sub out perform all HTIB's i auditioned...and as some persume, just because theres no separate reciever...... doesn't mean it can't do a HT. . It's all built into the sub(receiver/amp).

my budget was arnd 15k and i wanted a speaker set with optical in as i wanted to connect my media player and game console.

my main purpose was movies and gaming.....and regular music

finally would say that the Z-5500 could very well be used as a HTIB. The performance is absolutely good enough to be used where the typical HTIB is used. The only concern would be a lack of digital inputs. The Z-5500 has 1 digital optical and 1 digital Coax, and 3 sets of analog inputs and an analog mini input(MP3 player, iPods) If you really needed more digital inputs, you have to use a digital switcher, which would get the job done.
cheers,

Philips HTS 3571 - the dvd player doubles up as a receiver for coaxial and digital AUX. inputs. Essentially it offers everything the Z5500 does and betters it at the SQ. i have heard both the systems and can vouch for it.

It was retailing at the 14k mark at Big Bazaar outlets when their promotion was going on. This was during August. Do enquire.

Hate being a rookie at anything .....grrr......but what advantage does receiver for coaxial and digital aux has over something that doesn't have it? I guess its for connecting LCD or gaming console?? and also optical in...what does it mean?? pl answer categorily if u can!

Like everything ...cuda googled it but preferred not to overload the google servers. ;)

Supports transmission of digital audio in 2 ways - via coaxial and optical. Essentially, the audio chip (called the DAC) found on the systems that accept digital signals are better than the ones found on motherboards and other systems that offer analog outputs (not counting high end audio cards here). Thus, it is perceived that the SQ is better. In this case, the Z5500 and the Philips DVD player houses the chip and converts the audio signal from digital to analog. There are systems which offer far superior SQ, does a better conversion from a digital to an analog signal and costs as much as a bomb!

You could connect a console (such as the PS3/X360 via the optical out), a stand-alone media player (such as the Xtreamer/WDTV/POHD via optical/coaxial), a PC (via coaxial/optical), a TV (via optical), a STB of your service provider, the list is endless.

He still has chances of finding it in the outlets.

thanks for educating me on this.

did my parade of lamington road ....and there is no good audio specialist I could find....none of the models were available for display or demo....everyone had 5.1s from creative ( the max price of creative 5.1 is 5k ???) .

but random walk-ins led me to a decent 2.1 speaker from edifier ...and was impressed by the product...I asked for DeIasked for a catalogue and wil check with dealers for 5.1s from the same company...the endor told me that edifier is giving onsite warranty

another company buzzin a lot is F& D which is seen In Croma chain ...have nt heard much from enthusiasts..any one who has tried F&D or edifier or can pass an educated opinion?

+1 to that. @15k nothing beats 3571. I am using it with wdtv for a year now, and I am recommending it to all & sundry since. A real kicker.

logitech speakers are good but its for pc.because the sound is not wider in a large room.from my experience I am suggesting to buy onkyo hts series they are really valuable for your money.

I am also suggesting edifier s550 but they are only having analogue input but sound is really wider and the quality is unbeatable in that price.but you have to buy a dvd payer having 5.1 channel out +dts, dolby and other decoders.

Option 1: Philips HTIB in the 16K range (This comes with DVD,USB etc etc)
Option 2: Z5500+basic DVD player (This combo can not be beaten at all in this range)(Exceeds budget but better than 1st one)
Option 3:If you have external HDD/computer ,get the mediaplayers from WD.+Z5500. Copy the movie to pen drive and play it. DVD players are limited to basic format only. This one plays many. (Exceeds your budget by a lot, but far better investment for resale and longitivity)

just checked demo of LG HT55f .....it fared better than Philips HTS3571 in the demo at Croma... was surprised myself along with the many people who gathered as If it was IPL hearing when I took the volume levels up north and when everything else became inaudible.

I gotta be honest....the LG sounded batter than Phillips atleast 'on the spot'
anyone tried this piece from LG yet. Its retailing 12990 and the shopkeeper in his never ending spirit of salesmanship told that it usually retails at 18800.....but we know the Story of MRP.

a very good discovery is onkyo hts 3100...thanks Rohit for ..but I think it will be overkill for my need and expenditure. Edifier remains in contention.....

Oh Big brands.....bring out your best....as I'm about to make a decision.

hts 3100 is a very good option you can't understand it at first time but after a long time you will realise its a wonderful htib.edifier s550 sound quality is good but price around 16 to 18k, at that price you will get hts 3100 with av reciever with dts, dolby and prologic decoding

one thing really important z5500,s550 and all other pc speakers having high distortion (10%) while onkyo has only (.02%).

compare all the specs of the 5.1 speakers mentioned here with hts 3100 you will get the answer
