Sequels have become a major part of the industry this generation, largely due to the costly investment of developing a new IP. Games like Uncharted and LittleBigPlanet have warranted their sequels with strong global reception, but it isn’t always the successful games that get the sequels.

THQ has revealed that the controversial title Homefront will be coming back for a sequel. This comes as a bit of a surprise given Kaos Studios’ recent dissolve, which now places THQ Montreal at the reigns of finding a way to make what was originally an interesting premise actually deliver.

Despite plenty of negative reception, including from us, the original quickly sold over a million copies, and its online mode has maintained a small but loyal fan base. Much of the marred reception comes from the campaign mode being hyped as its best feature. Many quickly found out that the single-player was a mess, and that the online was where they’d get any and all of their enjoyment.

THQ Montreal is a new studio, but is loaded with talent, so there’s a possibility that this series will be salvaged. I’m sure I’m not alone when I say that I would love to see Homefront done right, so here’s it’s second chance.

It will be more than an year before it sees the light of the day, whats the point of getting excited about it now? Besides, there is nothing to be excited about anyways. The original was a very average affair. The premise was good, yes, but as has been pointed out, it just wasn't done right.

Relax Bluffy. Who's excited anyway? There's no harm in posting some piece of news. :)

On a side note, I loved playing Homefront. It was indeed a good game. The storyline was pretty good. The only gripe I had was the campaign was short.

Crytek developing Homefront 2! :ohyeah:

"We see Homefront as a really strong universe that has a lot of potential and that has been expertly created and marketed by THQ," said Cevat Yerli, Founder, CEO and President of Crytek. "We believe that bringing our level of quality, creativity and production values to the next Homefront title creates an opportunity for both THQ and Crytek to deliver a truly blockbuster game. It's really important to us that THQ has the faith in giving us a lot of creative freedom over one of its most important properties to allow us to bring the Homefront world to life in a new and innovative way."

^^ Let's see how this turns out, from what I understand HomeFront had a good story line but lacked the visual punch. Crytek should provide that.

It did not have a good storyline. I had a very good premise, which had the potential for a good story line. If a game is only 4 hours long it doesn't leave much chance for a gripping story. And after Crysis 2's overly convoluted story, I do not have much hope on Crytek.

iam pretty sure they wont. crysis 2 narrative was really good so iam really hyped for this game btw dont you guys think the premise of Homefront 2 is similar to that of World in conflict i mean in WIC the russians invaded the USA in HF the N koreans :P

Don't know about the content, haven't played it. Is it just 4 hours long? What were they thinking?

Homefront sold more copies than Crysis2 didn't it? Maybe that's why Crytek decided to tie up.

Eh? That seems like a stoopid logic! :P

The original Homefront devs. Kaos Studios went defunct and someone had to take this IP up and develop it further.

And maybe milk it a la COD series.

Wtf ... only PS4 and Xbone. :( ... why u no PC.
Awesome trailer. Might be in-game graphics from the looks of it.
