Hello folks :)

I'm going for a trip to Hong Kong and Macau in a weeks time and would like to pick up a few things from Hong Kong. Now, this brings me to my question : Is a PS3 cheaper there when compared to the Indian prices? If it is, then I would like to pick one up from there. Should I pick up the 120 GB or the 160 GB version?

Also, please recommend some good malls/shops from where I could pick up the PS3 in Hong Kong.

Thanks,
Black_Hawk

PS3 cheaper, yes. You can upgrade the internal 2.5" drive, so this isn't a biggie.

The Lamington Road of HK is Golden Shopping Centre. Been there in 2008 and computer h/w is CHEAP! The place also retails gaming hardware so you could get your PS3 there. I got the nunchuk and the additional controller for Wii for a TE member from GSC.

Not sure about PS3 price but be sure to check about warranty...in most cases sony's international warranty does not apply to india(i may be wrong)

try doing most of your shopping in HK only...Macau is anyday more expensive

for electronics try Sai Yeung Choi Street in Mongkok ...to be safe shop from only major chain stores like Fortress and Broadway...u can try bargaining but dont be expecting miracles to happen...

for premium bran shopping head to Harbour City, HK ...you will find all they brands there...the same are available in macau but i found better deals while shopping in HK

another tip: your HK money will work with ease in Macau also, no need to change

have a safe trip

regards

Thanks @ Gannu and and Subzero :)

I'm getting the PS3 from there then. About how much should the PS3 be priced there? Just saw on Flipkart, it's being sold at 21.5k here (the 320gb + Move starter pack bundle).

P.S. Also, while buying the PS3 anything special I should check? This is going to be my very first console so I'm a newbie regarding this. All my gaming has been on my PC thus far.

Just ensure it works properly. The newer ones generally doesn't face problems like the phat ones did but it would be worthwhile checking it there for a case of DOA. And yeah there's no warranty if something happens later.

I recall seeing the satin silver phat PS3 with MGS 4 (some special edition) retailing for 18k odd when it used to retail for some 28k here. Don't recall the exact pricing, but it is definitely inexpensive there.

Okay, thanks once again Gannu.

I will definitely check the unit to rule out a case of DOA. I do understand that I wouldn't be able to avail the warranty but if something is to go wrong in the console's hardware I hope it can be given to Sony for repairing at a cost?

Just thought I'll add in. I checked with Sony service centre. Warranty is obviously out of the question if the PS3 is bought from out of India but the worst part is if something does go wrong with the hardware of the console, Sony service center will not repair it even if your ready to pay for the repairing. The reason they gave me was it's because it goes against their terms and policies to repair PS3's which are brought from outside the country.

^I'd advise you to drop the idea of getting the console from abroad. The console can be bought from here for 3~4k more but the warranty is worth it. Although the newer slims don't develop problems, god forbid if something goes wrong later, you are in soup!

Why don't you buy something else like a DSLR and a pair of lenses to go with it? Computer h/w is also cheap.

@ Gannu:

Yes I even spoke to Toolius about this, I have mostly dropped the idea of buying the console from there. The hassles along with all the warranty and repairing later if something is to go wrong are just not worth it.

I'm buying a camera for sure and maybe a good screen for my PC as my current monitor is now quite old.

P.S. I have to buy a pair of headphones for my friend from there, he wants the Audio Technica AD700, will I find it there?

yea just look round any of the fortress shops u should be able to find audio techs, but they arent that cheap. camera im sure ull find a sweet deal round mongkok
