The Android experience is now complete!

Re: Hot News! Android Marketplace in India now supports PAID APPS in Indian Rupees! Y

The rates seem like direct USD to INR conversion. And yes apps seem expensive to me.

Re: Hot News! Android Marketplace in India now supports PAID APPS in Indian Rupees! Y

They are! direct conversion from either Pound or the dollar. Depends on the developer's home currency!

Noticed this yesterday.. about damn time. I had bought the Launcher Pro earlier via PayPal anyways. Seemed worth spending Rs 140 on the awesome launcher :)

PS: What is the payment mode here btw?

So you feel paying Rs. 200 - Rs. 300 is expensive for any app which adds a lot of utility to the phone, but buying the phone itself is not as expensive? Jeez that's 1/10th the cost of a seedbox slot.

I myself dont own an android device and yes i do feel the pinch spending 200 to 300 on a single app for the phone. It is very subjective and varies from person to person.

I just feel that the apps should have been priced keeping the Indian market in mind and not just blatant USD/GBP/whatever conversion to INR.

Also this has lot to do with the people like me who have been using symbian devices which nevertheless has lots of apps and also know ahem sources to get them which changes the mindset a lot towards these non tangible items like apps for phones.

Just my perspective...No offense meant.

Btw 200 to 300 is not 1/10th of seedbox slot, since last time i remember paying around 800 rupees for a seedbox slot, seedwave FTW :P

Re: Hot News! Android Marketplace in India now supports PAID APPS in Indian Rupees! Y

BTW, just to make it clear, the payment is NOT in rupees. The marketplace just shows approximate price of an app by doing a direct conversion from its original currency price to INR.

The actual payment is still to be done in the original currency of the app dev and will cost more than this amount because:

1. The conversion rate used by your bank is generally more than the avg rate that google takes

2. Your bank/cc will also charge forex conversion fees

So, e.g. an app that "shows" up as around 100 INR would cost you around 115-125 finally.

Edit: @raksrules. Android does not have country specific pricing so there is no question of high prices or low prices for India. The pricing is set by the developer in his own currency. Google is just giving an approximate idea of how much it will cost in your local currency.

How does the refund thing work ? Is it that our credit-card is charged after 24 hours or we are charged at the time of buying and get a refund if we uninstall ?

Its like the compulsion some people feel to download a 2 DVD 15 GB Game even it costs a mere 400 bucks. Whats cheap and whats costly is a very subjective opinion. Another important reason is right at the end of the page you linked...

For starters, if you’re like me, you’ll buy an app and it ends up just sitting on your phone untouched after about a week. That’s the amount of time it takes before a slick new application loses its novelty and appeal. Of the 100+ apps I’ve downloaded or purchased in my lifetime, I’d say I really only use about 8-10 on a daily basis. So I think, “Do I really want to pay for this game if I won’t be playing it two days from now?”

This is my India where we all cheap b$%$%#@. :D

Re: Hot News! Android Marketplace in India now supports PAID APPS in Indian Rupees! Y

The payment is done only through Google checkout using your CC. I don't think credit cards now a days charge that ~2% for international currency exchange fees.

I will buy something and let you know!

Re: Hot News! Android Marketplace in India now supports PAID APPS in Indian Rupees! Y

^^ The Credit card is charged according to the current exchange rates of the bank which are higher than the actual rates. So yeah, even if you don't see a separate exchange fee being changed, you are still paying extra over the actual exchange rates.

BIG problem! Cant buy apps online. :@

However when I tried to buy Astro file manager Pro which is for 4$(Market shows 176.68) I got a SMS saying 177.31 could not be approved. So the conversion rate I spot on!

How do I get past verified by Visa!! Help! I think thats whats causing the problem. I get an SMS saying transaction could not be approved as wrong details were given. :@ Bank saying please check expiry date and cvv number!

Re: Hot News! Android Marketplace in India now supports PAID APPS in Indian Rupees! Y

I use AMEX just for the mastercard secure and verified by visa crap

Re: Hot News! Android Marketplace in India now supports PAID APPS in Indian Rupees! Y

RBI has forced all Credit cards issued by Indian bank to have 2nd level of verification to curb card misuse.

I just bought a App online! Had to make a Virtual CC. Worked!

Re: Hot News! Android Marketplace in India now supports PAID APPS in Indian Rupees! Y

^ But that is only for transactions happening within India in INR. For international transactions, VBV is not mandatory.

Oh well, I guess its subjective. @raksrules, I myself am on seedwave, that's why the above comment. I guess you must be on one of the cheaper boxes.

@Nemesis, the 24 hour window exists for a reason.
