Hotspotshield not working?

I used Hotspotshield just yesterday for a short while and it was working fine. Today, when I launched the program again, it asked to install some driver service which I declined for some reason. After that, the program refuses to connect to their servers at all... in fact, I get the following message -

Unable to connect

Firefox can't establish a connection to the server at 127.0.0.1:895.

So basically, it can't even connect to the localhost server. I checked and the port is open. I have since reinstalled the application, and this time I allowed it to install the driver service it had asked for before but that didn't help either. I also manually allowed HSS through windows firewall, but again, it didn't help. I've checked the services panel and the HSS service is running just fine.

Is anyone else having this problem or is there a solution?

completely disabling the firewall itself doesn't solve the problem either, so i don't think that's the issue.

for reference, i can still use ultrasurf just fine, which i assume is functionally similar to HSS in how it works. so i'm thinking it's an application specific problem.
