planning to buy nokia C5-03 for daddy on his birthday.
Seems to have everything except capacitive touch screen, flash for camera and front camera.
Any hardware issues found please do mention as i do not intend to buy a paper weight :P

how bad? It's amazing, camera has no flash, but even Galaxy S does but it's a best seller.

I last heard C5-03 selling for 9k+.

FOr that, you get 3G, Wifi, 5MP cam, 3.2" screen and daddy's got a new delight at a budget....

The phone looks pretty good specs wise. Only the Resistive Screen is a weak link...

I sure hope it to be way better than the 5800XM.

Yes the specs got me interested. But since the phone is pretty new so wanted to be aware of any shortcomings of the phone.
If dad does not like it then my phone nokia C5-00 might be exchanged with that of dads.
So trying to be a bit selfish too.
If it looks good i am sure dad will like it.

Unless your dad is a real geek who decided to like a phone purely on the technology used, he'll surely like it.

Coz if he is a geek, he'll disapprove of the resistive touchscreen immediately!! :D

YOu aren't going to read news article son the phone sitting out on 12noon sunlight. The reviews are a bit extreme

Agreed. But even leaving aside the legibility issues, the screen is a Resistive one which in todays time is considered old technology by many.

I dunno why Nokia is sticking to the Resistive Screens when all competitors have already upgraded to capacitive long back. :(

typing on a 5233 resistive is far far easier than typing on the X6 capacitive. And to see, you cant use multi touch while messaging, email etc.

Multi touch while browsing? Pinch zoom is just a show, something unneeded. Press once and it zooms, press long, zooms out. There, saves you 1 finger.

It would be easier if you post your dad's requirements, and if you need reviews of an end user for C5-03 please mention that explicitly.

Comparing resistive and capacitive screens wont help the guy who started the thread.

But for reference, currently I guess Nokia is the only manufacturer using resistive screen in sub 10K devices.

All others Samsung, LG, HTC use capacitive screens in almost all of their devices.

Actually you can, Swype on capacitive screens is way better than on resistive ones.
??

whats the point when I have to keep selecting words from a selection of 4? In the mean time I can type in another word.

In all probability dad wont approve anything other than nokia.
He is a bit old school in that department.
As per the requirements dad needs a new phone with a bigger display. As for the trends touch screen phones looks the way forward.
And spending upto 8k or above with older gen samsung touch screens does not look sensible to me.

Not everyone feels comfortable with Swype. Especially the elders; in this case, the OP wants a phone for his Dad.
