Graphic Cards How do I get rid of artefacts in games???

well if your card is artifacting even with lower temps then it has hit its limit. thats all.
Just pull it down by 10Mhz and dont run over that.
10Mhz is for little headroom.
That card is not gona overclock more unless you vmod it or get extreme cooling like watercooling.

Thanks DJ and Funky....

I usually run it at Ultra speeds of 400/1100. Not much more. Only when I run Benchies do I oc it to it's limit.

And DJ --- Someone on this thread itself has recommended that I Vmod my card. What do you feel abt it?? I know it is risky, but how risky actually ????

And in the BIOS, there is an option of increasing the AGP voltage. from 1.5 to 1.6. What is that for????

Not much.

Its not that risky if you have good cooling.
Or you can do it as a temperory experiment to just check how much you can bench.
Use nvflash 4.42( use this version only not the latest one). backup your current bios.
use nibitor to mod it with higher voltage. Use 1.5 to start with.
First uninstall display drivers. Reboot the PC and boot with the floppy.
Flash the bios.
And see how much it will do.
It will increase your temps a bit.
But you can always flash back even if bios flash goes bad. You can always blind flash.
but make sure to backup original bios on floppy and also on hdd somewhere.

    :ashamed: :ashamed: :ashamed: :O :O

I hardly understood what you said there Funky!!!! Sorry.....

And I do not have a floppy dirve. Is it too important??? Can I manage without one????

@Nikhil,

it is not at all difficult if the spirit is willing.
You would require a good soldering skills and infinite patience (very imp. !!!)
anyways , considering the cost of your card and the immense risk that you may be contemplating , i would suggest first you try to get hold of a cheap , disposable tnt2 or GF2/4 mx series card. (costing from rs. 250 to about 800 Rupees). work on that. gain some expirience , meaning break / damage those cards first.;)
(you would be amazed how much you can learn from ur mistakes while hardware tweaking .....)
once you are fairly confident. try the pencil mods first. these are relatively very "easy" and can be removed too incase you have to RMA the card in the extreme case that you may have to opt for warranty issues.
once you decide about volt modding kindly post about it here on the site under a different heading. i and many of our co-members will help you to achieve that with as little "pain" as possible.
but i once again remind you that these tweaks / mods etc "can" permanently damage ur card. if that happens kindly do not blame it on others.
ps: I will be volt modding my X800XL card next month......, will update you guys of its status as and when it happens.
"The spirit is willing but the flesh is weak" is my current condition........

For GPU vmod on GF6800 he dosent even need the soldering. it can be done using the bios flash and bios editor.
For RAM vmod yes soldering is needed.
And why dont you try pensil vmod first on your X800XL.
Tape the mod, it lasts for good 6-7 months. then do it again if needed.

Hey DJ ---- The spirit is certai9nly willing..... But as you say, the flesh is weak. I got it from the US after a lot of bargaining with my dad and telling him that I was anyway going to spend 15 K in India. It would be better to spedn that 17K in the US and get a 6800GT.

I am not yet ready to take that risk until I know a little bit more abt it.

I do have an old GF4 MX 440SE in my old comp.

Nikhil it wud be very risky for going Hadrware mods. [Dont want 2 kill ur spirit]
But the BFG 6800 is now way found in India & is one of the best Nvida GPU's
Like Deejay said first try ur hand at some cheap cards.
Pencil Mods are first to be tried as they are really easy
Funkys idea is also good.

Seems u guys are never satisfied with what u have , always aiming higher & more higher.
Well Best of Luck with ur GPU Mods
