hi guys, I have a iPhone 3GS & I have to send it to USA.

Got suggestion from @vivek.krishnan to use Speed Post. Is it reliable ? Is it trackable ? Can it be insured ?

OR any other couriers ? like DHL etc ?

Also the receiver has to pay how much customs ? Any details regarding this would be nice.

TIA :)

EMS speed post has tracking and insurance option available.
Its most economical. Quiet reliable as well to be honest.
likes of DHL will end up costing more than 3-4k to ship the phone to US.|
Most of the times US resident wont have to pay the customs but its possible. That will be charged to the receiver.

Speed post also has the Flat Rate Parcel Box option, wherein a fixed rate is charged for international couriers depending on the size of the box used.
Welcome to Chennai Post

You can get the box from the post office and then do the needful. For a small box, the entire charge is Rs.1000. I'm not sure if this is costly compared to routine Speed post or cheap, and whether it is insured or not; you can get these details clarified from the post office. But the rate is not dependent on the weight of the contents. And they can be definitely tracked.

Hi, use ICC WORLDWIDE as I had sent a mobile using their service which cost me 750/- rs and that too it reached US in 2 days.

Any idea how much EMS Speed Post would cost ?

from this link : India Post | Premium Products | Speed Post | International Tariff

I guess it would cost approx 700 that includes tracking & insurance ?

It will be about Rs 775 incl tax for a 500 gm package. Yes, it includes tracking and once it reaches US, you can track on USPS website too. Insurance will be additional depending on the value.

You can try WorldNet Express as well, it will be handled by DHL.

So both ICC WORLD & EMS cost same. Which one to go with ? ICC delivers in 2 days. So which is more reliable, I'd go with that :)

^ For ICC, you need to first ship the item to their Mumbai office, so if you are not in Mumbai you have to add the cost of shipping it to Mumbai as well.

^ I have never used their India to US service, but there is actually no realtime automated tracking, it seems like they manually update it whenever they feel like! :P And the time stamps for almost all shipments are the same, I wonder how! :P

Anyway the items reach from US to India fast and within 2-3 days. You will probably need to call them to know the exact status of the shipment.

I had sent netgear push to tv adapter to USA.
as @Shripad said, bluedart quoted me 3600.
went to worldnet courier and it was sent off in 990 rs and delivered on day 5.
so I recommend the worldnet courier.

I think you should go with ICC they ship the package to their NY office then ship locally thru FedEx or USPS. You will get tracking no so no need to worry

Also no problem with customs as they handle it really well. Heard many horrible stories of people using EMS. I got my mobile rmaed in flat seven working days.

My speed post package of S2 has still not reached US sent on 1 April , website tracking doesnt show anything . Given a written compliant , still nothing . Dont use speedpost .

Speed post is not as reliable as world net express. Only till Delhi , Indian postal dept handles te shipment. After Delhi , it's handed over to DHL So it works out far quicker and far cost effective.
