You should be able to upgrade at any time, but I think you can downgrade or cancel only within the first 30 days.

You can manage your Prime membership through Your Account.

I don't see a way to upgrade my membership though, only cancel.

exactly the same for me too. But I hear there are new plans which are cheaper if the main use is for shopping only.

Afaik you can only downgrade to that post your current membership ends
