Hi Guys

I just wanted to know how does a NewsGroup Section funtion.

I mean where do the threads come from.

As none of the threads there are posted by TE Members.

The newsgroups section serves as a gateway from TE to the USENET*. It allows all our members and guests to read newsgroup messages and send posts to newsgroups.

For example, If you guys have a computer related problem and we have a specific newsgroup for that, try posting your query there. Its quite possible that you'll get an appropriate solution within minutes. We also download other problems and solutions to our forums from various newsgroups so that you guys can have ready-made solutions to your technical problems right here at TE forums.

It is very helpful for members and guests who don't know how to setup a newsgroup and this forum functionality makes browsing through the newsgroups a breeze. ;)

*USENET:

Usenet is a world-wide distributed discussion system. It consists of a set of "newsgroups" with names that are classified hierarchically by subject. "Articles" or "messages" are "posted" to these newsgroups by people on computers with the appropriate software -- these articles are then broadcast to other interconnected computer systems via a wide variety of networks. Some newsgroups are "moderated"; in these newsgroups, the articles are first sent to a moderator for approval before appearing in the newsgroup. Usenet is available on a wide variety of computer systems and networks, but the bulk of modern Usenet traffic is transported over either the Internet or UUCP.

Some years back before the days of Forums I used to visit the Newsgroups with a software called Free Agent - this is still operating as far as I know - to get into a newsgroup server your ISP had to have a gateway to the groups - at that time on a 28.8kbps modem I used to use the VSNL Newsgroup server which used to be 202.54.1.25 - these groups were broken down under headings and there were some 30 thousand odd headings the last time I visited them - which was about 5 years back. In these headings there were about a thousand p0rn sites including some with names like Playboy and Hustler with all their centre spreads for free. VSNL was one of the very few ISP's who had not censored out the p0rn groups :D

There used to be messages posted at such a fast rate that if you post a message and did not check for a reply within a couple of hours than there could have been a few hundred messages posted after yours and you would have a tuff time seeing your message again. IT WAS FAST AND FURIOUS !!!

I think what we see in TE is a sort of small selected part of these Usergroups.

to download Agent....
