My friend wants to buy Kingmax 512 MB DDR 400 ram. He is getting it for 1900 (Mumbai) and wants to know how good it is. I dont know anything about kingmax ram and checked a few reviews of them which were good.

But those reviews are old, so wondering if any of you know someone who has these and the overclocking potential. Will they do at least 240 Mhz at 2.5-4-4-10 at 1T timmings ?

Get it and try, you never know what you get in Mumbai. No other option, its always a gamble to get good chips at low end levels.

I also want to get ram, is elixer ram available in Mumbai anywhere.

Heard they are good overclockers. Also saw some PQI 512 MB ram for 2k with 3 years warranty.

Hmm.... Isn't Elixir the RAM that SCSI got sometime back ? He did 265 1:1 at tight timings too and all that for 900 bucks a stick !!! But they're 256 sticks not 512 ones. Oh, and the chips were Nanya Technologies.

As for the PQI, any idea of the model number or latencies ?

Is this the PQI one ?

I got the Kingmax ram as I wanted to try out this ram, and also right now I dont want to overclock the ram.

It is better than my Transcend ram. It can run 2.5-3-2-6 1T at 200 Mhz which my Transcend cant do. Did memtest for 20 minutes and was stable. Max speed it achieved was 240 Mhz at 3-3-3-8 1T at 2.8V.

I didnt try booting it at lower latencies. But in case anyone is interested in buying the ram, I can test it at lower latencies and see whether it can still reach 240 Mhz without errors, or the max it can do with 2T or looser timings.

@Freaky - If those were the PQI memory that I saw, I would be writing a review right now instead of mentioning that they were available ! :bleh: No they are from the same company but they are value ram. Website is here http://www.pqimemory.com/power_memory.asp.

Other than that I couldnt find any other interesting ram. Just Transcend, Twinmos, Simmtronics, Zion, Kingston, Dynet and Kingmax. Of all these dynet is the cheapest at 1800 for 512 Mb ddr and it is the only single sided ram I saw.

I also have Kingmax RAM on my PC, and I was able to run it at 2.5-3-3-7 @ 200MHz DDR without problems. ;)

Kingmax RAM is very stable, try their HARD-CORE series DDR500 RAM, you will be very impressed. :)

Darth, im running the ram at 2-3-3-5 @ 200 Mhz at 1T.

The speeds you are running it is at SPD values i.e. the values that the ram was designed to run at. Try lowering the values to abt 2-3-3-6 if you want more performance.

Im not sure if it will void your warranty, so do ask if it voids your warranty.

TE gurus, can anyone please mention if running the ram at latencies lower than SPD voids the warranty ?

Nope. Running the RAM at lower latencies will not void their warranty.

@BF, can u try and post the best that the KingMax can do - Both at 1T and at 2T as well as the best latencies that the RAM can do at its highest frequency ?

@Darth, are the DDR500 available here ? If so, how much do they cost ?

@BF1983: I was successfully running it at 2-3-3-6 for a while, but I updated my BIOS and this version does not allow for changing beyond the SPD-programmed latencies :(

@Freaky: I'm not sure, you may want to check with Lamington Road dealers :-\

I'm in Chennai pal which is why I wanna know that info. Had I been in Mumbai, I would be having that RAM in my siggy rather than asking u abt that :D

@Freaky - Sure, will test tommorrow and post back. I right now have another module inside, so tomm ill remove the cabinet and the module and test.

@Darth - I dont get it. What are we supposed to look at ?

I was saying that there are some phone numbers listed there which seem to be of the distrbutors (In the comments section). Maybe one of these will sell the Hard-Core series? ???

In Taiwan, those RAM sticks from Kingmax are all over the place. There was not a store where you couldn't find 'em.

Ok, couldnt resist. Tried booting up at 2.5-3-3-8 1T. Max that it could do was 233.5 Mhz. And the max at 3-3-3-8 is at 240 Mhz.

Even 1 mhz beyond that causes errors. 2T makes no difference to overclocking. Also it boots up at 2-3-2-6 1T at 200 Mhz which is damm good for a value ram.

But memtest gave errors so that speed isnt stable. But still even my Transcend cannot boot at that speed. It works at 2.5-3-2-6 fine.
