If all that your wife plans to do is sit on the net and chat, plus use some productivity tools like word, excel etc, you are better off with a E 350/450 based laptop like hp dm 1 z, as it has much better battery life. Also ensure that before buying it, having a feel of it is important.

Thanks for the reply...

As you said i 'm looking to get the feel of the laptop before buying. But where to get the feel? No showroom has this model nor this series on display....

AND,,,

Do we have any other laptop in 14 inches with better build quality at this cost?
Moreover getting a E-450 is really tough nowadays though.
with 14 inches I have to search again...

Can anybody recommend a 14 incher with better display and build within 23k...?

see my advice is not to go for a samsung laptop. I havent personally seen this one or used a samsung laptop before. It might be a decent piece for all I know. But I personally wouldn't stake my money on it. Samsung is just one of those companies who is just trying to get into everything.. they make tvs, lcds, leds, home theatres, laptops and what not. ..although the tvs are fine, their home theatre system sucks. .especially for the price.. what my point is, you should instead buy a laptop of a brand which is specifically into this kind of products. eg. hp, compaq, acer.. etc.. these brands focus themselves on such computer products and peripherals and hence are definitely a better bet. .samsung just wants to make everything.. right now netbooks, as I am assuming you want, is a fast trend, hence samsung started making these. .thats it.. if you want a good laptop in a budget, I suggest you first look into acer if they have something that suits you. .their laptops have decent build quality and are great value for money as u even get an option to buy one without a preloaded Operating system. so you can choose to install linux or something if you are just going to browse the internet and do basic officework. saving about 8 to 12K to pay for windows 7. also gateway is a good brand from toshiba, and toshiba is itself a good brand. their laptops are quite rugged and well built. they just dont have a lot of market presence as hp does. ASUS is also one of the good brands still trying to gain market in India. already have good market abroad.

brands I would never even consider giving a thought to are : Lenovo (they are not IBMs, just a chinese company IBM took over to make cheap products), HCL : some of the worst computers and laptops I have ever come across

I havent given any concrete recommendations, but i do hope this will help you make a better choice. .

^^Mate, your post does not make any sense.

Sony makes all those products like TVs, music systems, cameras, walkmans and many more things along with laptops.

Then we should not buy Vaios according to your logic.

Everyone should buy HP or Dell, even if they are making those super crappy inspiron and dv6 right?

Do you even know how many things does Toshiba make?

Oh!!BTW what about Apple, they are making mobile phones for only 4-5 years, we should avoid iphones too and buy only Nokia.

@o.p, do not know about that particular model, but Samsung is making nice laptops these days and they are much better than Acer build quality wise.

Their budget series 3 is really nice.

Sir, i am not just generalizing about everything...I did mention that I havent used the samsung and it might even be good. its always considerable. but companies such as HP, acer, toshiba are a safer bet for someone whos not sure what to buy. and yeah. personally i am not in favour of a vaio..I like my hp better..wont argue

for dell but HP is not crappy at all. .just because you may have had some problems, like many people, doesnt mean its not good. I have had over 6 hp laptops in my house in the past 5 years, and none have them have had any problems. infact, HP and acer provide some of the best configs for the price.. they are real good valuefor money.. .. and true, sony's making a lot of things, but sony's also put a lot of effort in improvising their product. sony and samsung are competitors, but every sony product you see, is much superior .be it LCDS, LEDS, sound quality of home theatre systems and laptop quality too. .. and about apple, I am not someone who is just biased for no reason.

They are shutting down their netbook division considering their tablets are more powerful than netbook and having better margin.

They are not shutting down their laptop division.
