I am going to buy this DELL laptop. This is the cheapest config from DELL with a dedicated video card. Few imp. pointers about this config are..

  1. Core i3 380M
  2. 2GB RAM
  3. 320GB HDD
  4. HD 5470 512MB
  5. 9 Cell Battery
  6. 90W Adapter
  7. No Backpack
  8. DOS OS

The main purpose of the laptop is official work with light gaming & HD decoding... Please comment & provide your suggestions. Also if there are other alternatives with Core i3 processors in other brands...

HDMI + eSATA is a must since USB 3.0 is still few months away for this price range... Budget Max 35k. only...

:)

Check out Sony Vaio EB44. You can get it for around 34.5K (you have to bargain for 6-7% discount).

3GB Ram

320GB HDD

AMD 5470 512MB

3 USB 2.0 + 1 eSATA/USB 2.0

HDMI

Also comes with Windows 7 Home Basic 64 bit OS

Looks interesting.... but what about the battery, my config has 9 Cell battery + 90w adapter...

Dell with my config + Backpack & Win7 Home Basic 64bit = Rs. 34970/- (i.e. +1500)

Also Dell is charging Rs. 900 additional to any config as delivery charges...

The config that you have selected is a good config but if i were you i would have gone with Dell Inspiron 14R (i3 380M + 3GB RAM + 320GB HDD + HD5650 GPU + 6Cell Battery) by increasing my budget by 2k...

Gaming is not a primary concern but screen size is along with larger battery to provide good backup for a 15" screen... I would have gone for onboard also if it saves me few thousand bucks but couldn't find a config with onboard & DOS...

There is no 9 cell option with the Vaio E. The bundled adaptor is a 75W one and that is what you need to use.

If you can stretch your budget by 2k then go with Inspiron 14R as Hades suggested. The 5650 is a much better card than the 5470.

If you can do with Intel IGP then there is EB42. For 32k i3 380M, 2gb ram,320gb hdd. Battery life on the E series is 2.5-3 hours with the standard battery for light usage.

^... Online price diff. against Hades recommended config is Rs. 3430/- I think going for retail it would be 2k difference..

EB42 price would be same as DELL if I remove 9 Cell battery to 6 Cell from my config...

Also how are these..

^^If you just want a laptop for office usage then go ahead with what you are thinking to buy... Its a pretty good config... And the IGP that i3 380M has can handle 1080P movies easily... In the above rig you have included HD5470 that is why i suggested 14R wid HD5650 coz HD5470 is pretty useless for the GPU intensive games that are launching these days... You really dont require A low end GPU for decoding movies as the on die IGP would just do the job well...

This one is with Sandybridge & starts from 33.5k... 2x USB 3.0 is also present...

They only have XPS with sandybridge....:(

I went & asked around about VAIO & got the best quote of 33k for EB42 & also a news that it will be discontinued for Sandybridge that's why such low quote...

After looking around & getting to know that new Sandybridge is just around the corner with better features I think I will postpone the purchase for the new DELL Insporn 15R 2nd Gen... Specs are quite good & can't ignore USB 3.0...

  1. Coreâ„¢ i3-2310M processor 2.10 GHz (2nd Generation)
  2. 2x USB 3.0
  3. eSATA + USB 2.0 Combo port
  4. HDMI (allegedly 1.4)
  5. Chiclet keyboard
  6. User Installable Lids (assorted)

It has been launched in the west already & no reason why it won't be launched here... :eek:hyeah:
Here is a preview... First one is the Core i3 2310 Model.. :)

The new series will be N5110

^^Great News... And yes do wait coz waiting a little to buy something new really makes sense...
It totally does if it include major hardware changes... XPS, Latitude & now Vostro laptops come with Sandybridge in India... Only Inspiron remains....

vostro with sb will be good option.

even hp config posted is nice.
