ok,..i have been playing fallout 3 for the past week.

every time i begin playing it,..it crashes at least twice in one sitting.
i would have given it up very early if the game wasnt so good. (big rpg fan here)

it seems now that even bethesda has given up trying to fix the Random crashes.

so how many times does it crash for you?

I experienced a lot of crashes before...but I got a patch from bathesda site and after that haven't faced any problems....

2 or 3 times in 30 hrs playing time of flatout ...

the game is huge ONLY if you go after side quests which are pretty intresting and complex

After patch game completed w/ 10-12 crashes :P I've noticed most of the crashes occurred in the wastelands !

Are you using an Asus Xonar soundcard? There's a bug with the game on that card. Downloading the latest Xonar beta drivers should alleviate that issue.

Also, you'll need to add fallout3.exe to your ffdshow audio and video decoder's exceptions list. Apparently, there's a known bug with the two. For instance, if you open your ffdshow exceptions list, you'll notice that oblivion.exe is by present there by default. Since Fallout 3 uses the TES4 Oblivion engine, expect the bug to be replicated. Check this link.

Well Hallelujah! Speak of the devil & it appears. The game froze for the first time. I was playing an hour long session & all of a sudden I can just see myself standing still. Music still continues to play but no key tap responds. Finally Ctrl+Alt+Del led me to my desktop. That's my first glorious unconditional crash. :)

It crashed once or twice very early in the game for me , after that I have finished the game and had no crashes.

no i dont have a asus xonar. i do have an asus mobo though.:ashamed:

and i have tried adding fallout3.exe to the ffdshow audio and video decoders list. i have also tried playing in windowed mode too. i have also gone couple of versions of the nvidia drivers back.all this has reduced the crashes but hasn't completely stopped them.

Crashed sometimes. Mostly when you are going from a totally non graphical area to a graphically intense area.

Like coming out of a small room with nothing in it to the wastelands
