How much do Indians spend on weddings?

Everyone spends as per their capability and parents always want to do the best for their children be it a boy or a girl. So asking how much one spends or comparing expenses of marriages is useless.

As a dude who got married recently, I thought it was a huge wastage of money to spend so much on your wedding. Ideal situation is get a court marriage, solid party to your closest buddies and then some fancy trip or use the money saved to get something (new car, savings, house down payment) whatever.

But do tell me, your parents didn't agree, right.
Whenever I tell my parents, that this is the way it should be, all I get back is, " We are not asking you to spend your money."
I am like, WTH, give me that money and I will buy a Harley or something. But nothing I say will make them change their mind. If even they agree to it half-heartedly, most of the times, the girl's parents won't agree.

+1 to it :D, i am very well going to marry in court, but can't see my sis getting married there :D :D

Yup they did not. Life would be a lot different if they had ever listened to anything I have ever said.
