CPU/Mobo How much power do you really need ?

i came across this article on tomshardware.com which i am sure many of you might've read.

it highlights the fact that IF you intend on gaming on your pc apart from the basic daily usage you can easily make do with an amd athlon x3. in the article they have compared the x3 with the core i7 920 and i feel this article should be read by everyone who intends on building a pure gaming pc.

Yeah, but some of the results in the article were important, esp. never to underplay the importance of the CPU in most of the games. Its important to strike a balance between the graphics card and the processor choices when playing around with a fixed budget.

However, the dual and trike AMD's make sense cause you have a good probabilty for unlock and then if sucessful, you get a Quad for a much lesser price.
 
Shit that was an interesting article! Such a measly processor's prowess was put to test alongside a i7 processor and it gave a good run for it's money. :O

About time we recommend the AII X3 440 to peeps asking for systems for budget gaming. DarkAngel, are you listening? :P

Yup. Read the article :D AthlonII X3 435/440 and the PhenomII 555BE(nice unlock %) are the processors that i recommend for ppl with 30-50k budget for gaming rig.

Still the unlocked PII 555BE is the best VFM gaming proccy IMO.

But most newbies are adamant on Intel Core i-3 530 even after lots of explanations. Eventhough it is also a good gaming proccy, the sad part is they get it with Vanilla Intel H-55 boards as the combo price is the lowest. One of the major advantages of the i-3 530 is the great OC potential and they just nullify it by the choice of boards. Some are even stuck with the opininon that C2D's are the best :P
