lets see now. How shall we improve thee?

this is a download rig. As much as I'm an AMD fanboi, this certainly does NOT make sense
Mobo + processor : D945GCLF2D - 3.5k
and why do you need a KVM? what about remote desktop or vnc?
If you're gonna be splitting bandwidth between two pc's , you'll be running them on a network anyway.
and you can find plenty of cheap small cabinets for 1k, or if you're even cheaper, use a shoebox :P

there you go, an actual 10k download rig. no wait, its 9k:tongue:

Bah, an Atom based download rig is still cheaper. The breakdown would be something like 3k (for the combo) + 1.2k (Kingston 1GB DDR2) + 2k (Seagate 500GB hard drive) + 1.5k (Zebronics Pro Power 350W/FSP Saga II 350W PSU). Totals to 7.7k. Without the input peripherals. A basic keyboard and mouse combo from Logitech or MS should be another 500. Beat that! :bleh:

No enclosure - just dump it in some stash and no optical drive - why would one need an optical drive here? The OS can be installed by a USB flash drive anyway and all the data could be easily transferred through LAN. And no display since it can be remotely accessed.

LOL @ the TechTree article. KVM switch - really?

I saw this Seagate FreeAgent Dockstar for real cheap at a German Site for 20 EUR. Its actually a stripped down Sheevaplug with 128 MB RAM and 256 NAND Storage. Can be hacked to run Gentoo or OpenWRT etc. Has 3 port USB Hub too. Uses less than 8w even with a hard disk connected.

If we can get this, it will be an awesome download RIG. Actually few weeks back the same item was sold in NewEgg, Buy.com etc for $25 shipped, sadly I missed it. :(

Edit : Its also there in eBay for about $49 shipped. Asked ICC World for a quote and they gave 3.3k :)
