then in that way, I can convert ALL my FLACs to WAV and delete the Flacs itself....

And start using WAVs in foobar instead of my present flacs...

You are sure FLAC --> WAV... no loss ??

Yup. Its just like unzipping a file :P

But keep the flacs. Wav will take up twice the space, plus it doesn't support tags.

Yes, thats why i asked you to keep the flacs. You're supoosed to delete the wav files after you're done with them.

I read up on that and i checked it out .

a wav file was compressed using FLAC , and Apple Lossless , they were decompressed back to wav and the md5 hash was verified and both were the same . hence it is truly lossless .

Apple Lossless = Lossless = FLAC .
there will be no difference in how it sounds , hence the lossless term .
wouldnt be of much use if there was any "Loss" in a lossless format :P

use dbpoweramp and install both the Flac and Apple Lossless codec for it and you can right click any flac and directly convert to apple lossless .

works great in ipod then :) but no idea about battery life . will probably do a comparison and let people know :)

I dunno if it's only me, but all those Rockbox themes posted are downright hideous!

Apple's underlying concept behind the iPod is minimalism. This is apparent right from its design (look at its simplistic shape and colours) to its ergonomics and user-interface. In fact, this is what makes it different, and in my opinion, several notches higher than the throngs of cheap copies that infest the market.

To install something like Rockbox which (by observing only the screenshots) has hundreds of things jumping out of nowhere, in garish designs, and with onscreen buttons defies the very idea behind the iPod. It's like taking a pristine red Ferrari and painting it baby pink and flourescent blue and placing cheap flashy neon lights all over the place.

Basically, it's desecration.

Or maybe I'm just too wound-up about these things for my own good :P

^^booyah

nailed it dude :)
I have seen people installing rockbox only for flac's , where there are eqvivalent options available for the ipod in its own firmware :)

Never understood the need for lossless files on a portable that would in most probability be heard in a noisy environment !

^^ unless you have some serious noise cancellation :)
i am sure they will sound good on the Sennheisers that Techhead has , the model number eludes my memory :)

^PX100s :)
Not too much of a difference on my new iRiver. FLACs on a train, 192KBPs MP3s on a train.. 10-15% difference at the most.

Of course, listening at home through the optical output to my amp = bliss :)

why would anyone want to mess up the elegant, easy to use and simple UI of an ipod... (which is wht the USP of the ipod is anyway)

if I want a bevy of features (which will usually never be used), I might as well do myself a favor and get an iriver or something...

as for FLACs, I, fortunately :) , cannot discern the difference between FLACs and 320kbps MP3s

I know a lot of people can...but on a portable music player...geez...you must have thrice the number of hair cells inside your ears than I do

Nikhil,
