How to backup windows updates before re-installing windows?

I have Win 7 pro on my system. I have downloaded and installed all the critical and recommended updates for Windows on my system. Now the system is acting weirdly for a few days and I'm thinking of a clean install of the Windows.

Now I want to know if there is any way to backup the downloaded windows update so that I would not have to download all those stuff again after re-install.

Anybody tried the Win 7 SP1 beta? Shall I download it and install (it should have all the previous updates)?

My home internet is not unlimited and I just don't want to download hundreds of MBs of updates at home. But I can download the SP1 at my workplace and save some bandwidth at home :).

Use some imaging tools to image ur Windows Installation right after all softwares, drivers and updates are installed

Then, whenever u need, just restore that image

With an imaging tool everything will be backed up - including corrupt files - if there are any. So, when I restore that image - the system will be back to square one. Isn't it?

What is the speed of your internet connection..?? If its within 512kbps then it would be advisable to get the updates again from the windows Server.

For your information the Windows Update files are kept in C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download location. If you need you can backup from here.

Well how to backup update files in xp sp3?

Does anyone knows? Sorry OP if i'm hijacking your thread but i've similar query though in different OS

Do not install Win7 SP1 beta. Software's are called beta for a reason... testing mainly and they will mostly expire after a certain date.

Rather do a fresh reinstall of Win7. I did it for my laptop after it got a virus, and then i updated Win7 completely. All updates were done and it downloaded around 100MB at max AFAIK.

When you use Windows Updates, it does not download the complete update but rather only the main part of the update. I know this because when i did a security update of around 4MB it just downloaded around 1MB.

Nowdays Betas are quite stable, so there's no harm in trying it out :)

And I trust Microsoft Betas - used Win 7, Office 2010 and Live messenger. Never had a crash with them. Thoroughly enjoyed using them.

i never updates windows unless its absolutely necessary. I go by the saying "if it ain't broke don't fix it". I do wait for the major SP releases. Never had any issues and security breaches. Because for those i use third party applications.

IMO -

Never update windows... It might have the opposite effect.. or are useless sometimes[win 7 updates the entire language pack] and you wont even notice any difference after installing the updates..

and for security u already must have a firewall + AV.. so nothing to worry about..

Just wait for the Final SP1 executable file.. and you are good to go..

what about core security patches? its broken, that is why MS issued a patch/Update for it. I guess you are waiting to get hacked...lol

its already executed so not possible, for future u can customize dowloading options under Personalize Windows Update then the updates will be downloaded as exe files that u can burn is a cd/dvd.
