PC Peripherals How to clean cpu heatsink ?

Ever since I purchased the Prolimatech Megahalems I haven't cleaned it thoroughly. Only Air Blowing and nothing extreme.

So was thinking of making it giving a complete make over by cleaning it completely. However I am bit confused what solution to use inorder to clean it. I do remember reading cleaning a HS thread but can't find it. Anyways what should be done inoder to make the HS looks like new one and shine like it used to be.

What solution needs to be used ? Apart from that should I dip it inside the solution ? Or what ? If I had to dip it the for how long ? and what else needs to be considered ?

TheSocerer suggested me Thumbs UP but that doesn't looks good to me. I do remember tomato sauce thingy but that too creeps me out :P

Please do let me know.

Regards

Sauce scares me as well! :ashamed:

I use vinegar with a pinch of table salt added to it. Keep the heatsink in the solution for sometime until all the oxidation on it is removed.

Both Tomato Sauce and Thumbs UP have sugar in them which becomes sticky after it dry up, best option is to use pure(~95%) IsoPropyl Alcohol/PCB Cleaner which you can purchase from a chemist. Or get Arcticlean thermal paste cleaner(Prime had it some time back).

Don't use the local ones you get for 20 bucks from Lammy roadside vendors for your PROLIMATECH Megahalems, they are good only for Aluminium base HS.
