Storage Solutions How to clone a Laptop HDD

Hi

I intend to replace my Laptop HDD with a SSD
My Laptop is ACER Aspire 5740 model MS2286

When I replaced my desktop hdd, I had no problem as additional data cable and power was available

But how do I clone the laptop hdd ?

Will I need any additional items which I need to buy ?

Thanks for advising

you can buy a External 2.5 " inch Sata Casing for Hard Disk , fix the SSD into it, plug it to USB port and start cloning.

When cloning a laptop hard drive it is important to install the new, empty target disk in the laptop first. Next, connect the old drive through USB. Once this has been done, you can perform the clone. If the target disk is cloned while connected to USB it will not be bootable

I am not completely sure but don't think this should be true..

How exactly are you cloning btw ? You can try one those bootable cds/usb which have imaging apps installed.

Should i go for the regular SSD

or this which is made for laptops ?
Any idea what is the difference ?

I was intending to use the Samsung SSD cloning software

I've recently used macrium reflect free version. It cloned my hard disk with breeze. You can try that. Took 25 mins to clone an HD of 80 gb to 320 gb HD

Note: Cloned Windows 7 64bit ultimate

Hello

I successfully migrated from HDD to SSD on my Acer 5740 MS2286 laptop

I first upgraded to Win 10 in my old HDD and ensured that the Win 10 was activated.
Thereafter i downloaded a USB Bootable Win 10 Software from Windows site.

I then swapped my hard disk in the laptop to SSD and installed a fresh copy of the OS
I skipped the win key when i was asked for it.
After completely loading the OS, I checked and found that the Win 10 was automatically activated
