Hi Guys !!

As the topic says...
I have two pcs in my office.. separated by a wall...
Want to acces the cable nternet which is on one of them thru the other pc also..
And also want to be able to share data between the two...

Physical wiring seems to cumbersome...
I have bluetooth dongles on both pc's...

Is there a way i can connect them via bluetooth ??
And can the internet be shared if i manage that ??

Hi,

Dude, it can be done, but seems you have not done your homework, bluetooth is way too slow, you need to go in for a wireless router and hook up your PC's with wireless cards

i understand it might be slow..

But its ready.. thats my point..

i dont need to invest in anything if i can get that going !!

If its too slow or doesnt wrk.. i can probably think of wireless routers or something later...

the exact method would depend on the exact BT stack being used by your BT Chipset....

But in essence, the method is the same as doing a standard ICS

1- Pair the 2 computers on BT

2- On the Host PC, Set the primary NIC (The one connected to the cable Internet) to enable Intenret connection sharing with the Bluetooth Virtual NIC

3- On the 2nd PC, Set the gateway for the Bluetooth NIC to the IP for the BT NIC on the host PC

Thats it! :hap5:

Bear in mind though that the connection will be real slow , and 802.11 g is the only decent option currently for wireless networking

@superczar - thanks for the quick solution !

will try it out and see how it goes...

@ others...

any other suggestions / help still welcome !! ;-)

BT dongles are very very short range.. just a few metres. Also I don't think BT can pass thru walls. 802.11g is the only viable option or else just drill in the wall as hunt3r said :P.

BT passes through walls, but the range gets impacted badly..

I suppose our guy here wants a temp working cheap solution

Guess no harm in trying!

@hut3r .. the pcs are spaced out.. the wire will show !!
not a viable soln for the office !!

Ever heard of carpet :P Seriously BT will be the worst way to do this, and with the comps begin spaced out with a wall in between theres no guarantee that it'll even work. What you could do is get two WLAN cards for the comps which will cost you about 1.2k each. But the LAN cable idea will cost you next to nothing and will be the easiset to configure as well.

Since you said you have existing BT dongles on both PCs, try pairing them up and try transferring a file....note the transfer speeds (If it works at all!) and then take your call :P

@ superczar ... will be trying it today.. or tomm.. incase i dnt get enuf time in d office !! Have to catch up on last 3 days wrk .. (due to the Mumbai rains !! :) )
Man.. last 3 days were good !! :hap2:

@ hunt3r .. might just give up on bluetooth thing incase of sad speeds .. and will go in for good old physical lan.. might jus have to buy a carpet !! ;)

@ all - thanks for ur suggestions..

will post later !!
