How to connect 3 PCs(all running XP Professional) in a single network??

Hi Guys,

I have 3 PCs and have connected all three of them through a D-Link Router. I have used ethernet cables for all 3 PCs.

Now, I want to know how I can share the files and stuff on one PC with another. But at the same time, I want to keep some files private.

First thing is to access the files on one PC through another. How do I do that??

Thanks

Multiple methods, though perhaps the easiest is:

Assign static IPs to all three PCs
>control panel>network connections> Local Area connection n>properties>TCP/IP

use a private range ip address sequence ...I use 192.168.0.1, 192.168.0.2 and so on for each of the PCs....
Give a subnet mask of 255.255.255.0

- test the ping between all machines >run>cmd ... ping 192.168.0.n
- right click on any folde you want to share, enable sharing for it
- from the other pc, type \\192.168.0.n in the run tab

Enjoy

In XP pro, you can also assign granular access rights for individual users,,,,however, you will nee dto go to windows explorer>tools>folder options>view>advanced settings>uncheck use simple file sharing

Once that is done, you will get a list of advanced options while sharing a folder that will allow you to add/edit user level rights for shring
