Hi friends,

Hope the title is not too confusing...
I am using BSNL 3G sim in my E122 USB Modem to connect to the net.
It works fine when I connect it to the laptop. I also have a wireless router ASUS 500GP V2 with 2 USB ports. This router contains the latest version (3.0.4.4) of ASUS firmware.

What I want to do is:
I wish that whenever the router is powered on the router should connect to the internet using the E122 (which is connected to the router's USB port)

I have multiple devices sharing this internet connection so I would like to connect the E122 through my router only.

Please suggest what ever information that you may have. Any links or experiences are also most welcome...

P.S. : Earlier I had the tomato firmware on my router but coz I could not tweak it to download torrents (My bad linux knowledge) I restored back the ASUS fw.

Cant I use some other firmware and get this working??
I really need to get this working.....

@Supra : Have u or any friend of urs tried this on Asus RT-N13U? I saw the specs but could not find any thing much diff from my router. Seems like ASUS 500 GP v2 is a higher end model than the Asus RT-N13U. Kindly correct if I am mistaken...

Firmwares are different for different model and each chipset has its own functionality. The router you have has a usb support for hdd and printer, it will not support 3g modems. Better to get a 3G router for the same, there are plenty available in ebay from 3k onwards.

yeah but I just invested 4500 for this one and 2250 for e122. Dont wanna spend more on these stuff now. Also I had bought the ASUS to build a download rig....
There maybe some way out.... I will try to contact the ASUS support guys... once in a blue moon chance but lets try...
Mean while please keep pouring in ur suggestions friends............ Thanks.

I don't have any Linux knowledge :P ,but afaik dd-wrt, oleg too supports this router. Why can't u try any one of them?

As mentioned in my OP I tried tomato1.28 but could not get it up to download torrents. So switched back to ASUS firmware. But if this thingy is possible using any custom fw like oleg or others I am willing to give it a try. Please let me know if you find any links supporting the same or on how to do it.

With Tomato 1.28 I was not even able to mount the device.

Guys some people are connecting the 3G usb modems to the seagate dockstar. Maybe they can help which firmware to use or atleast some scripts to dial and connect the device.

Found this on google... Will read it completely and try it out....
Wireless Router with a 3G/UMTS/HSDPA dongle
Though I am not so very comfortable with custom linux firmwares and scripts.. but I think I will have to take a dip if this is the only solution for my problem :)
If anyone also tries this out please let me know.

P.S. Can anyone lend me a USB to LAN adapter so that I can try out that option also....

Which firm ware is better:
DD-WRT or Open-WRT?

I am getting more and more positive that the Open-Wrt firmware will resolve the issue. Tried to do it last nite but had to abort as the router needs an internet connection on wan port to download and update the packages. My BSNL BB is not working from friday :(
Also I came across a screen shot on the ASUS forum which shows the 3G/UTMS option in the WAN connection page. (using DD-WRT firmware). I wonder if the hardware can actually support a 3G USB modem then why doesn't ASUS include this in their original firmware...
