How to convert .mov files created by my Panasonic Lumix LZ8 to .avi

Hi,

I recently acquired a Panasonic Lumix LZ8 and have shot quite a few videos with it. The video quality is quite good, but the files are .mov (Quicktime Movie) format. The files are huge, and I feel can be converted to a much more compressed format like avi, without much loss. I tried a couple of online mov to avi converters but they didn't seem to work. If anyone has any prior experience / knowledge of how to do this conversion, please share it with this poor lost soul!

Thanks

Mallik

Yay ! I tried the video editing software bundled with the cam, called Arcsoft Media Impressions, and it converted a 120 MB mov file to 30 MB avi file. Now another question - Should I keep the original mov file as archive, or the avi I created can be lossless ?

@Mallik, the original .MOV file should be lossless format. So if you want to keep the best quality video then try to back it up as well besides the converted file(.avi) which is not lossless(must have used MPEG-4 compression).

Also try using AVIDemux in future for converting video files, this has got some quality video filters.

All the best

Hii
You can convert your quicktime movie into avi with quicktime converter for mac tool. It converts the files with very fast speed. First load your quicktime movie then choose the output file format that is avi. Then select the destination path and then click convert to convert quicktime movie into avi. It is very easy to use. Good luck

I suspect this post.. ^o
