How to convert pencil sketch into digital form

Hi guys i m searching for good software or tutorial for converting sketches into digital form.

I have photoshop cs 2 with me. Can somebody please help me ?

This is what i have drawn few days ago .

I tried converting the rough sketch like below.I just used combination of pencil tool and selection tool and end up with this.

Can somebody suggest me a good practice or software for such kind of work?

Outline the edges well. Scan the picture and then use a vector editor to trace stuff out. Add/edit nodes as you wish. I use a tool called inkscape for that.

Which format should i use to save it for later use in photoshop?

I use a free online converter to convert .svg files to .psd.

Think its - Online convert TIFF, JPG, EPS, PCX, PDF, PNG, PSD, SVG, TGA etc
