Help!
I downloaded some files off the net that are RAR password encoded.
Is there any application that can crack RAR passwords in a respectable time frame, preferrably that does not use the brute force method(which AFAIK takes a long time)

Thanks for reading this,

Regards,
aka.

^ practically its almost next to impossible to crack password using Brute force, without Brute force, you can try dictionary attack

If you have downloaded these files from the net, and if they use a difficult password then you will need to use brute force. Here you will need to specify characters used and size/length. Although not impossible with the help of nVIDIA GPU using CUDA, it will take a very long time, indeed. Also there is no surety that you will find the password.

Rather try to find the password using the file name as a search parameter in Google. You might find the password. If you want any help, just PM me.

Dictionary attack is just one of the variations in the subset of brute force attack strategies. It decreases the running time of the attack by limiting the scope of the search, but there is no guarantee that it will find the password successfully.

There are software for cracking rar passwords using Raw brute force and they can theoretically find any password, but they can take from days to months depending on the password. such software usually have options to optimize the search based on info like length of password, whether it includes symbols or not etc. unless you some basic traits of the password, it would be a long search.

Thanks for the help everyone. Guess I will download it again and stick to trusted sources. It is not a big file but I just wanted to try and see if an alternative method is possible. Gosh. How I hate sharecash

Little suggestion,

what I did is just copy the name of the file and google it with extension... Lot of solution

If you still can't get it, try using parameters just like Vivek said(google scene release name or size)
