Ho,

I have a generic AMI 650AVR ups (No Software control, not directly connected to computer). Now the thing is there are frequent powercuts in my home, sometimes every few few minutes!!

So this UPS of mine starts beeping. I want to disable this irritating sound. How should I do that without taking it to shop?

Re: How to disable the beep=beep sound of UPS?

you have to open the UPS, find the buzzer and disconnect one of its wires !!

cover the wire cut ends with electricians adhesive tape ; close the UPS

you might like hiring a TV technician (for Rs 100) who lives near your home..

Re: How to disable the beep=beep sound of UPS?

yeah thats the only solution. The beep indicates us of power cut so signals us to shutdown our work temporarily by backing up within that bakup power time.

Re: How to disable the beep=beep sound of UPS?

Yeah mate, go ahead, get yourself a soldering iron and remove the buzzer. Open your ups carefully, make sure that you disconnect it from the mains before dissecting it, next check the pcb for a buzzer with two legs, now using your soldering iron, remove the buzzer.
Thats it you are done :), Guaranteed result fully tested :)

Re: How to disable the beep=beep sound of UPS?

I cut of the wires to the buzzer in college ... But it would just void the warranty... :P

Re: How to disable the beep=beep sound of UPS?

I found the buzzer but it is on the PCB which looks tightly fixed with the top cover. Now tell me how to disconnect the battery so that I can proceed to remove the PCB.

Above circle thing is the buzzer attached to top ups cover.

Also it says WARNING: No user serviceable parts inside. Do not open. As components remain electrically charged thru the battery blah blah.. How do I make sure I don't get a shock?

Re: How to disable the beep=beep sound of UPS?

well, you do not get electrical shock for cutting the buzzer wire in UPS :)

take general precautions - wear footwear ; use a cutter with plastic handles..

find two wires at PCB end OR at the buzzer end ; AND cut one of them..

Re: How to disable the beep=beep sound of UPS?

try filling the hole of the buzzer with something like silicone gum kinda thing, that should reduce the noise by many folds.

Re: How to disable the beep=beep sound of UPS?

Just apply tape on the hole. My office telephone is so noisy even at lowest level I applied the tape and the sound reduced to 50% aprox.

Take some dough and and tuck it where the sound is coming from, till it's 0 dB and keep it inside the oven until it gets hardened.

This is a much better suggestion IMO. Reduces the noise and you needn't cut any wire or be worried in doing so.

Use a soldering iron and remove the buzzer, better switch off the ups and disconnect it from the battery

^^^ just to make sure that, that the broken parts won't be the cause of any future problem, remove the broken parts and try to remove the terminals with the help of a soldering iron :)
