I have an external Hitachi Neso 320GB HDD and need to do a health check on the same. I am suspecting that it may fail on me in near future. Is there a all in one utility to do the same and get required statistics to know more about the HDD ?

Also does Hitachi have official RMA in India for product bought outside. AFAIK the warranty is not valid in India but whats harm in asking them (if they do exist that is).

Hitachi is serviced by accel frontline same as those of seagate last time i checked.
Try to make an rma request if they accept it you might be lucky. You never know.
As for hard disk diagnostics each brand have their diagnostic softwares to check any faults in their disks.

Downloaded HD Tune Pro and currently the error scan is going on and i think it will take 2-3 hours for the same to complete. But here is the screen-shot of HEALTH tab. Check and tell me if there is anything for me to worry about ? I did a quick error scan and it did not say about any damaged blocks but at the time of writing this post around 3GB of my HDD is checked and it has found 2 blocks in RED which supposedly is damaged :fear:

Check here for some official tools : Downloads
Cannot scan using the tool mentioned here since it has the following written there

Does not support external USB or Firewire attached drives.

Did a complete error scan on HDD and it showed me just 1 block in RED. 0.4% Damaged.

In this case it is safe to keep using the HDD without worrying about the data loss or should i be doing this scan say every 15 days and check its health and when it goes beyond certain point, take corrective action ?

^ Dont risk your data by postponing your corrective action... RMA it immediately. Even if there is one bad sector the it means the hdd is not healthy. Surely the bad blocks will increase in the near future, no doubt in that. And the increment wont be gradual all the times, suddenly it may rise up to 20 or 30 ... So beware and defend your data asap...

When service centre asks you about issue, just say it contains bad sectors and dont open your mouth reg. the number of bad ones... If they ask how many (most prob. they wont ask) tell them you dont know exactly...
