ok , i have some 1600x1200 images which i want to use as 1366x150 for image in my site preserving maximum details .. yes its 150

i mean how can i reduce its size , make it widescreen and preserve maximum details ..

its just i want to use it as a banner , its like my college pics , which i want to use as banner ..

ok if this is not possible then i will have to take pics , tell me how to take pics in that ratio to get the perfect banner ..

check out the site , want to use image in the banner , thanks ..

1366x150 - is this correct?

Assuming it is a typo, since the aspect ratio is different, blindly converting them will stretch the images in one axis. The best possible route would be to crop them.

The best way to preserve most detail would be to crop/cut out the top/bottom bars out of the image to match the aspect ratio of the required output. The you resize the image to your final resolution. This is confusing since I do not have the exact final resolution that you want.

please update.

I think it can be done using Paint as well.. Just enter the new dimensions and keep "Maintain Aspect Ratio" checked.. Should do the job !

Well, before writing here I did a small test on PS.. and I feel the two possible ways are -

1. Cropping..

To convert a photo of resolution 1600x1200 which is of ratio 4:3 to a photo of 1366x150 which is of ration 27:1 you need to crop the above and below portion of the subject.

Moreover, you need to be smart while choosing the photo, so that while cropping you dont clip off the main subject.. Photos need to be wide enough.

However, I am not sure if the final photo will have too much details. but as per my calculations, it will have enough detail to be used in website. Since no one will be zooming these photos in the website (as it is not a photography site) you dont need to worry too much about the details.

Any decent software can do this job.

2. Panorama.,

If you are too much worried about the details (though you dont need to be) and need a good pixel-ed image, you can make panorama.. However, it has no benefit as in the end you will be downgrading the resolution to 1366x150.. The panorama goes helpful in the case you people will be zooming in the image and checking in the small things present in it..

Best tool to use to resize images is IrfanView. It can also do it in batches i.e. Multiple images in one GO.

as suggested by ashvarybabul, cropping should be your first choice as you alread have images and it can be done easily with any image editing softwares.

1366x150 is not 27:1 its something like 9:1.
you can go about cropping the 1600x1200 in two ways.

1. just take out any 1366x150 rectangle out of the image and delete the rest of the part. easiest.
2. instead of a 1366x150 rectangle, use a 1600x176(approx same ratio as 1366:150) rectangle, and then resize the output to a 1366x150 image. This way you get more out of the original image.

finding the best possible banner part of the initial image will be the hard part.

oops, sorry for the wrong calculations.. 27:1 was taken out of 1366x50, miss read the 150 as 50..

also, if your photos are not really very wide (or there is not enough space to shoot wide) and there is a change of subject getting clipped while cropping, I guess you will need to take help of panorama..
