Hi,

I just got a broadband connection (590NU Plan) from MTNL. I used some torrent softwares like uTorrent, Azureus etc and found that some ports are blocked.
The solution is to enable some ports in the modem configuration page or to enable bridged mode.

So, any body has an idea abt how to enable bridged mode in UTStarcom 300R2U modem. The firmware version is R100B02.7AS.D.

Thanks in advance.

For configuring bridge mode -

1) Log into web interface of modem

2) Select Lan from left hand side options and disable DHCP server. Click save and reboot the modem from the reboot option. While the modem reboots, assign static IP to ur LAN card. You can do it in win xp by double clicking on the lan icon in the tray the selecting properties > TCP/IP>>Properties...use192.168.1.3 ; put the mask in as 255.255.255.0 and Gateway as 192.168.1.1 ; use the foll DNS - Primary 203.94.243.70 ; secondary 4.2.2.1

3) When the modem comes back online, log in again into the web interface for the next part of the configuration.

4) Click on WAN from the options on left hand side

5) in the WAN setup click the edit button in the row which shows PPPoE enabled

6) ATM/ PVC configuration will pop up, let the settings as they are and click next

7) Now from the options that appear select bridging and change the encapsulation mode to "VC/Mux" click next

8) In the configuration screen that follows, make sure that the "enable bridge service option is

ticked..Give any service name or let it remain as it is. Click next

9)In the WAN setup summary click save.

10) Now the wide area network setup will appear click "save/reboot"..let the modem reboot.

The Bridge mode is ready as far as the modem is concerned. Now we need to configure the dialer in the operating system

Goto Network connections in Ctrl panel >> Create a new connection >> connect to the internet >> setup my connection manually >> connect using broadband connection that requires username & password >> Put in the ISP name ie MTNL >> put in ur username and password >> add a shrtcut (will make it easy to find after setting up the connex.)

OT - why didnt you take mtnl unlimited?

Thanks for the quick reply.

Are yaar, since my modem firmware is different, so my settings page is also different. There is no option of disabling DHCP server in the LAN page. Also, i have a P-III machine with no LAN card so the modem is connected to the USB port. I'll still try the settings mentioned by you.

I didn't buy the unlimited plan as it is too costly for me. My parents will kick me off if i pay nearly 1000 bucks per month.

Just tested the settings mentioned and the internet stopped working so i reverted to the PPPoE mode.

Looks like i have to wait for my new PC for using bridged mode.

use this string to search in google "configure UTStarcom 300R2U"
follow the 4th last link from the bottom. :ohyeah:

see even if the firmware is different , the settings are not too different.. but if that irritates you , you should get the firmware upgraded.chk out with mtnl they would redirect you where you could get your firmware upgraded.(you could do it yourself too though, but yeah if the modem goes dead, you might have to wait for sometime b4 a new modem is available to you)

I would like to wait till i get my new PC in few days (with LAN Port).

Thanks for the help though.

P.S: Repped u!
