i have a macbook pro available to use at my office. however i heard its slow and laggy which could be due to the apps put by others. How do i reset all so its back to top condition. Being a i5 2.5ghz and 4gb ddr3 ram it should not lag i guess.

i5 generation? and hdd or ssd?
if ssd, is it the NVMe version or the SATA version?
The above would detrmine if the system would be fast or laggy

Resetting is easy - Either create a new admin user , login as new user and delete other profiles
ALternatively, just do a fresh install
Also, if its an old version (old gen i5/non SSD etc) then reinstall OS version 10.6 or 7 to keep it snappy

yes its older gen so non ssd. OS version is 10.9.5

That would mean it is quite old and 10.9 is overkill for it
To put it in perspective, the new nvme ssd hit 800/ MB/S VS arnd 300 for the Old SSDs vs 100 on the old spinning drives..
Look up the model number and do a fresh install of the oldest 10.x versionit originally shipped with.. that will make the performance more than acceptable
