I am really disappointed at this - any solutions?

I need to convert the format to Basic from Dynamic.

^^ IIIRC converting a disk from dynamic to basic or vice versa will result in data loss.
My suggestion. perform a backup and reinstall windows, at drive selection page, delete all the partitions and recreate as you need.

PS: wait for other members to post, others might have a better solution

I have installed the OS in my Intel SSD. I am going to use this drive as a data dump. Have taken a bakup of everything. No point in installing OS in it as CA50 suggested.

I tried opening command prompt inside windows as admin and it does not allow it either. :(

Try using that disk in another pc and Then try deleting the drive.

If you have a Windows 98/ME boot image disk, you can boot up in DOS and use Fdisk
