How to format laptop

I have a compaq c700 laptop that has vista preloaded nd i want to format it nd install Xp sp3...But i have heard that the hard disk does not work once the laptop gets formatted...
Plz Help................
 
what u've heard aint right . Formatting does not create any issues at all...(how on earth could it ?? it's like asking.... "If I use the duster on the Black-board, would it be possible to write again on it with the chalk? " :P... ) Just Go ahead :) .
 
change the bios settings

1. disable flash cache module

2. then change the default AHCI ti ATA for the hard drive

go ahead and install xp

and do watever formatting u want to
 
Another option would be to slipstream the SATA drivers using nlite. Can help you with this if it doesn't work otherwise.

But of course the BIOS setting method is much simpler.
 
Can anybody tell me how to format my compaq c700 laptop which has vista 32bit and i want to install xp sp3 after d format is done..
Can formatting be done like a normal laptop
 
its a normal laptop and you can format it in the same way as others are done.

but make sure u have correct drivers for xp as compaq does not officially give win xp drivers
 
it wont allow u install xp ...there is bios setting ..i dont remember the name exactly...but its related to HDD-/SATA/IDE
