The engine oil indicator lights up in the dashboard before I start the engine. So I guess it has almost ran out.

What I need to know is whether I can fill it myself or get it filled at the petrol pump after buying a pack of it. Or it needs to be replaced completely and can be done only at the service center?

If can be filled without a trip to the service center then any recommendations on which oil to go for in my i20? The car is 2.5 years old and has run 19K Kms.

Is this your first oil change in 19k kms. I doubt so. If the oil hasn't been changed for long then just get the oil flushed out. This is what I do.
Go to the local motor market. Buy oil, filter and other consumables on my own. Pay the guy 200 bucks and he replaces the parts and the oil.

You also need to mention whether your car is diesel or petrol. If you can get the same oil which Hyundai uses, I would recommend sticking to that. Otherwise get something of the same grade. Grade is mentioned on the oil can and should also be mentioned in your user manual.

engine oil lamp glows before you crank the engine because there is no/low pressure. it should turn off after you start the engine.

and you need to stop using your vehicle if that light stays on while you are driving.

and you need to verify if a top-up is needed by using the dip stick. it's very very easy to check it yourself.

and you can just buy the oil and pour it yourself.

and you need to read the manual, to know about the make and amount of engine oil your car needs. the time period for a flush. and lastly, to know about the behaviour of engine oil lamp... i could be wrong about your car.

To be at a very safer side, just drove your vehicle to the nearest authorized Hyundai center and ask them for the same. I'm sure it wont take more than 20mins. Did that on my Honda City last year when I was going out of town. Was lucky to spot Honda center somewhere near Nerul on the highway itself just before or after the McDonalds.

oil icon will always light on ignition, if the indicator still stays up even after cranking the engine, then you have a problem.

Adding on to this point ..

Your dipstick measures oil based on the level in the oil sump. When you run your engine, oil is pumped out of this oil sump into the engine. So check the dip-stick the next morning if you have just run the engine, that way the oil has had time to settle back into the oil sump. This is the problem with getting the oil levels checked after you drive in to a service centre or at a petrol bunk, since they do not wait for the oil to settle and quite often end up overfilling engine oil. Overfilling is a bigger issue than underfilling, so once you have a correct idea of the oil levels, then you can figure out what to do.
