I've a wireless radio in my laptop. My friends on BSNL have managed to connect to the net by connecting the laptop via this wi-fi radio to their wireless router/modem.

Now, Airtel has just given me a Beetel 220BX ADSL2 modem. It works ok but ppl on BSNL are able to get wi-fi and I'm not after paying more :@ .

Right now I share my broadband connection by using the modem USB out (USB cable) to connect to the modem to my PC and ethernet out (ethernet cable) to connect to my lappy.

I'd also like to get wireless internet on my laptop. What's the cheapest way of doing this? Anybody successfully done this with their Beetel 220BXs also please comment. Please also mention the model no. of wireless eqpt that you've used.

dude..

u need to get a wi-fi router to connect to ur modem and configure the wi-fi on ur lappy to access that signal..

wi-fi routers are available in diff price ranges : 2-4k(for 802.11 g that is)

P.S. there is no such thing as wi-fi radio..its just plain wi-fi.

wifi signal is radio signal ( scientifically speaking ) ;)

For wifi access as said above all you need to do is get a wifi router and connect your Beetel 220BX to the wifi router. From the wifi router's (in bridge mode ) LAN switch you can send the Lan cable to your pc and at the same time access the internet on your laptop.

Which router would you recommend? I'm fed up of spending hard earned cash on PC components. I'm just not in the mood for spending a fancy amount on wireless routers. I'm looking at a max budget of 1-2K.

You can get a Netgear WGR614 for about 1.5k. Decent router, but you won't get a very big range from it.

If u dont wana spend more then the above mentioned Netgear model is a gr8 bang for ur bucks else u can go in with Buffalo models which start from 2100 onwards(AFAIK)
